What's it about? Sal has dedicated her life to soccer since she saw "Kulti the King" play on her living room television set when she was a young girl. Kulti, whom she would grow to follow and support and love with all her little heart. The patron saint of soccer Reiner Kulti. She had posters of him all over her bedroom walls and told everyone that he was the man she was going to marry and have super soccer babies with.
But nothing could have prepared her for the man she would get to know, the man who would become her worst nightmare and her best friend...and the man who was destined to change her life forever.
Best Bit: Kulti is the ultimate superstar/ brooding hero. He is silent to a fault, extremely confident, arrogant, fearless, powerful, sexy, private and protective.
Sal's relationship with her father was beautifully developed and it was nice change to read about a main female character with no parental damage/angst issues.
Worst Bit: I love Mariana Zapata books. I love the slow burn. I love the insight into human emotions. I love the long chapters leading up to the emotional climax and resolution at the very end. So for me, it's hard to see the negatives.
But I can understand that for many people the first half of this book can seem incredibly slow going. What took 15 looong chapters to set up, could have taken 6. So be prepared... But, that being said, at around 40% in, it just takes off like a rocket and becomes un-put-down-able.
Recommendation: For lovers of slow burning, sport romances.

"I know I'm only a quarter way through but it's been long and slow going so far. The writing is good, the characters are interesting, but I kind of wish Kulti would speak already!"
