I don't usually like this exact genre of book, which is the gothic romance; this book might be one of the few I've read.

But I was interested in this story from the beginning. The atmosphere created is perfect for the story. But, what elevates this story is one of the most unique plot twists of any book I've ever read, and it was really brilliant.

“If only there could be an invention that bottled up a memory, like scent. And it never faded, and it never got stale. And then, when one wanted it, the bottle could be uncorked, and it would be like living the moment all over again.”

Florence (Lefty) MacIntosh So after your comment, I just had to see your review:) Lisa - I read very little gothic romance either - this was brilliant. Guess we both lucked out choosing one of the best.

Lisa Vegan Florence, Definitely. I read a few books like it around that time. Jr. High/Middle school age. Mistress of Mellyn and Rosemary's Baby were two others, the suspense more in common than anything else. I have always liked mysteries but now mostly like the humorous and cozy types.

I'm all over the place right now with genres, just having fun mixing it up.

Lisa Vegan Florence, I've always been interested in most genres. It's definitely fun to mix it up. I get into patterns sometimes, but generally read a variety of types of books. Unfortunately, that means I do get way behind with mystery series books and some other books too. Since joining Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ over 6 years ago, I also reread a lot less than I used to, and sometimes I miss rereading old favorites.

I so rarely re-read books, but sure are a few I'd like too, and yes - can tell by your shelves, you do like to mix it up Lisa:)I've only been on GR 1 yr - it's like being bombarded with books I'd never thought of reading before, still in the 'overwhelmed stage' I guess. Even after 1 yr I find myself sometimes wanting to just slip back to the books I was 'comfortable' with. After 6 yrs undoubtededly the novelty will have worn off! I have to remember to allow myself blissful pleasure reading time. Just added I Capture the Castlewith that exact thought in mind:)

Lisa Vegan Almost always I read books just for pleasure. I just like many.

Soon before I joined Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, I'd culled my to read list from about 800 to about 200. After 6 years on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ I've realized that trying to keep my to-read list manageable is impossible for me to do.

Florence (Lefty) MacIntosh I'm pretty easy to please as well, Lisa - rarely abandon books - end up enjoying most.
Yes, you've got quite the TBR list, no worry about running out of ideas for what book to read:) I've probably another 600 TBR's I've not entered in GR - have them in an excel spreadsheet, will get around to that one of these days. I thought about culling some 1st, but figure why bother - that's to much like work... I'll probably just enter them all. Less a 'TBR' list and more a 'Considering Reading' list - works for me.

Lisa Vegan Florence, I keep meaning to cull, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather spend my time reading. I do occasionally take books off my to-read shelf, usually when I read a review that makes me realize I probably won't choose to ever get to that book.

Julie G I couldn't agree more! It is brilliant, and I'm so happy that I had the opportunity to read it without having any plot spoilers any images from the movies altering my experience.

Julie, I got to read it the same way. I'm happy for you. I LOVED your review. I love most of your reviews.

Julie G Oh, Lisa. Thank you for making me smile, particularly on a cloudy day. I'm so happy that I know you.
