Having never read Homer’s Iliad I figured this would be a modern reader-friendly version. It was and I enjoyed it. My only other exposure to this was the movie Troy, a very loosely based version of the tale but so worthy of watching just to enjoy Brad Pitt in the role of Achilles (I'm serious here). As I learned from reading a friend's excellent review, the author is a classics scholar and teacher so is very knowledgeable on the material. If you want to fake a classic this is a good way to go. I actually felt smarter after reading it. ;-)

Since I just read through a ten year war between the Greeks and the Trojans I'm too tired to write many thoughts so if you would appreciate more information, follow the link below to read Will Byrnes's more fully fleshed-out review.

Jennifer "Fake a classic". Love it! I enjoyed this one, too. It inspired me to put a whole bunch of similar titles on my TBR list that I have never gotten around to.
