This book is so strange and awful, it's hard to explain exactly why I dislike it.

Thank God this book didn't live up to its hype like Twilight did. At least I hope it didn't because I don't really hear much about this one.

I couldn't get past chapter nine. It was such a bloody bore. I decided to give it time for me to find that little "spark." But, no.

Now here are the problems:

1. Lore can't use the word "and" in the proper way. Which seems like it's not a big of a deal, but it is! He randomly places it and tries to get his readers to understand his reading and it's quite awful.
2. The characters are all bland and pathetic. John seems to have a false sense of bravado. Henri makes me want to bang my head against the wall. And don't get me started on Sarah. The characters are so emotionless. No depth.
3. Lore tends to forget the most significant details regarding his plot. It's like, "OH I FORGOT TO MENTION WHAT MY POWERS ARE!" "OH, WAIT! MY NAME IS ---"
4. His writing is dull and boring in every possible way. It reminds me of Fitzgerald's writing.

Caroline in no way at all is twilight better than this... yes twilight was good but this is better. i dont mean to b mean but maybe your idea of super duper amazing characters is stupid. the book is really good. if these characters got more complex, it would be overkill. it would be like taking nice fancy tea, and putting a pond of sugar and a gallon of cream in it. the over all book was AMAZING. lore might have had a few errors in his grammar, but don't we all? even though the characters are aliens, they are as real as it gets... people don't think with incredible and amazing thoughts that are splayed out in an interesting and colorful way. do you act spectacularly interesting when you are around people? especially if you are an alien trying to be as bland and out of sight as possible so you don't get murdered by a ravaging alien race trying to slaughter your kind? hmmm... lets think about that.... oh and "UGH!"

Roohdaar Why, I do act spectacularly interesting when I'm around people. I can't help it, lol. =D

It's just my opinion! I think this book sucks. That's it.

Theresa ♫ Haleema, I think your reviews are freaking hilarious and original. I love them, but could you tell me what you think would make a book five-stars?

Hi, Theresa! Thank you so much! =)

For a book to be a slamming five stars:

1. It has to have writing that appeals to me. Not too much purple prose, not too many adjectives, and clear of unnecessary/irrelevant details. The writer's style should be unique. It should flow naturally.
2. The characters shouldn't be Mary Sues. They should have depth, emotions, and flaws. Some should be funny, others should be thoughtful and provocative. I would love a mixture of every kind of character!
3. The plot depends on what genre I am reading. For fantasy, it should be well planned, detailed, and interesting. It should leave me breathless with its twists and turns. For realistic fiction, I usually focus on the character development more, instead of the plot.

*shrugs* Clearly, Palice. She cannot live without her wold of books.

Roohdaar Oh, ho ho.

You are too generous, Palice.

Just, er, wondering.

u r right sorry

Ashley I liked the book a lot, but your review had a point and was very well written. Hey, maybe it was even better than Lore's writing ;D

Pretty sure the detail in the review discredits all you've just said. Just saying.

message 14: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne Bah. Did you read the entire book?!

Roohdaar Most of it! I can't remember if I read the ending.

message 16: by Lis (new) - rated it 2 stars

Lis The ending wasn't very spectacular so I personally don't blame you

message 17: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne Hmmm welp personally I think you should have at least finished it.

message 18: by Lis (new) - rated it 2 stars

Lis Honestly, if the rest of the book isn't up to snuff it isn't really a reviewer's duty to read 'til the end. A good ending doesn't magically fix the rest of the book and make it a five-star read, especially when the rest of it was pretty shitty.

Sorry for jumping in here, Haleema.

message 19: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne But if you didn't read the whole book you don't deserve to rate it.

message 20: by Lis (new) - rated it 2 stars

Lis That rule doesn't even make sense

message 21: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne Well people can't just go around rating books they haven't even finished..

message 22: by Lis (new) - rated it 2 stars

Lis Why not?

Claire there is no need to pick it to bits. if you didn't like then fine everyone has their own likes and dislikes but seriously. you review actually made me upset. I like the book and I HAVE ACTUALLY READ IT ALL BTW! but seriously if you don't have one good thing to say it sounds really rude and i agree you can't RATE a book if you haven't read it all

Roohdaar Are you kidding me? What happened to respecting people's opinions? I can do whatever I want, Claire.

Claire Ok sorry about what I said but the point was that I sick of most of my fav books getting criticized this much. Your right of course that you can say what you want I guess I got carried away with me liking it so much and besides the fact that I didn't like the review all that much. You do have a almost humorous way of criticizing it unlike some reviews I have read. :(

Claire Ok you said that everyone has their own opinion so yeah they do you didn't like it and I did and the review did make me a little upset and I got carried away. I guess because I gave it 5 stars and you didn't it was a bit weird. And I do respect everyone's opinions I just tried to make a point!

message 27: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne I agree absolutely with Palice!
I mean if you don't want to finish a book, you don't have to.
However, you don't deserve the privilege of rating it if you didn't even read the entire book.

message 28: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne I agree that she has the right to rate it and such, but I also feel that nobody deserves to rate a book they never finished.

Lis Anne wrote: "I agree that she has the right to rate it and such, but I also feel that nobody deserves to rate a book they never finished."

Why not?

message 30: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne If you haven't worked hard to read the whole book, then you didn't "earn" the privilege to rate it.
It's like rating a product you didn't even use.

Adrianna [SypherLily] Anne wrote: "If you haven't worked hard to read the whole book, then you didn't "earn" the privilege to rate it.

So if you only make it through half a movie, you haven't earned the privilege to say you didn't like it?
I think anyone has "earned" the privilege to rate anything how they see fit. It's not like she didn't try it. It's not the same as rating a product you didn't use, it's the same as using a product once and deciding, hey, it's not for you.

So if you don't use nuclear weapons you aren't allowed to complain about them?

message 33: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne Yes Adrianna it is like watching part of a movie and not finishing it.
Lamora: Uh haha no that is not the same.... o_O

You're poking holes in your own argument there sweetie, it's an analogy

"OH I FORGOT TO MENTION WHAT MY POWERS ARE!"

He does this so often throughout the series.

All. The. Freaking. Time.

Kogiopsis Anne wrote: "If you haven't worked hard to read the whole book, then you didn't "earn" the privilege to rate it.

Fun fact! 'Sampling', which is taking part of the whole and analyzing it to draw conclusions about the rest of the whole, is a technique used in pretty much every statistical field that exists. The idea is that the sample will be representative of the whole. Now, obviously in books it's not possible to take a random sample from the pages (random sampling being the preferred method of getting an unbiased sample in statistics) and get an idea of the whole work, but the first few chapters should, hypothetically, serve the same purpose, I.E. they should present a reasonable example of what the whole book is like.
Now, unless you're arguing that the book made a major shift in quality beyond the part that Haleema read - and having finished the whole thing myself, I'd argue that one with you - or you're denying the viability of sampling as an analytical technique, in which case there are about a dozen scientific and mathematical fields which would like to have a word.

I think you just made a point here, Anne. I think that reading a book shouldn't be work at all! It's what I do with my free time - my job is not reading books. I also have to pay for books, so I actually have to work in order to be able to buy a book. Therefore, if I get frustrated with the book, either story-wise, writing-wise, grammar-wise or character-wise, I have the right to rate and review that book.
I think maybe you should check out Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ rules as well. Because we are all allowed to rate books in any way we want. Some people use star-ratings to have the chronological order in which they would like to read books. And we have the possibility to rate books that aren't even published yet.
What's the rudest thing though, is that your very own profile is private, so none of us can go and read your reviews (if you have written any) but you think it's OK for you to come here and tell Hameela that she is wrong for having an opinion, and that your way is the only way.

Roohdaar I love you guys.

message 40: by Anne (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anne Anila: Well that depends where she stopped reading. Haleema, where did you stop?
Lamora: Please explain to me what you mean by poking holes.
Lexxie: I think you misinterpreted me. I agree that Haleema is indeed allowed to say whatever she wants in her reviews because it is her own personal opinion, however, I also am allowed to disagree with her view and argue with the way she rated the book. You say that I say that she is wrong for having an opinion, but here is where the hypocrisy starts. Right now, I am stating my opinion about how I disagree with her, and yet you guys start ranting about how I am accusing her of not being allowed to state her opinion. The truth is, she already did share her opinion, and I cannot force her to act otherwise, but frankly, I plain disagree. I do not like the way she reviewed the book and how she did not finish it, so I am arguing against it since I am very passionate about reading, and I love this particular series. So I have the right to have the opinion of disliking how she did not finish the book. Personally, when I read a particularly horrid book, I always finish it before I rate it because I feel like the author deserves at least that much. After all, whomever wrote the book probably did have to put a lot of effort and time into it, so I feel the need to respect the author. Well, first off, it is Haleema's own choice for having written this review, so anybody has the right to read it/comment on it. Do you disagree? Secondly, I am so sorry if I would rather not have creepers stalk me, but actually I did not purposefully make the settings like that. I have no idea how to change the settings and I did not know that people could not look at my reviews. Also, why do you want to look at my reviews?

Claire Anne I think you made a good point everyone has and option and they have the right to say what they think. If I upset anyone with what I said when I read this review I am truly sorry but here's the thing. I also have a option and I agree that it's not right that you should say " What ever happened to respecting people's opinion." When really by saying this your not respecting the others. I love this series and I know that I got carried away with my comment but the way the review was written sounded a bit rude to me.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh LOREd (Lord), that is a terrible pseudonym ;) Your review made me laugh and it is all true what you said.

I strongly dislike this book, it is another Twilight all over again but one of the things I find most stupid is Year 8's, 9's, 10's, 11's and 12's are all taking class together, like seriously what the hell? But I have no choice but to read the entire book and do much work on it.

Despair Speaking Have mercy on the innocent baby. Do not ruin her/his/it (hey, mutant babies can be innocent too) future.

And everyone arguing over this strangely amuses me. It was auch a so-so book. Not bad, not good. Just bland. I've read worse so I was just... ah, okay. Probably the only thing I liked was the pet and the charm of having to kill everyone in order. Other than that, BORING~
