Okay, this book is really, really hard for me to rate. Because plot-wise it was engaging, addictive, and thoroughly thrilling. I had to find out what happened next. And it was so twisted and sick and entertaining.
But content-wise, there were a lot of problems I had with this book. I have a really hard time with how explicit and violent it was; it makes me hesitant to recommend to people. There were definitely points in the story that I was disturbed and a bit offended. The writing is unique and fits the story really well. It's written in the 2nd person, so it's as if Joe, the narrator, is talking directly to you. But it wasn't at all pretty writing. In fact, there were quite a few times I rolled my eyes at how ridiculous he sounded.
Also, I'm not sure if I was just ill-informed or if the book is incorrectly categorized, but this book definitely borders on erotica at times, which I'm not a fan of. If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have read it, since I'm just not interested in reading that kind of stuff.
So knowing all that, I'd say reading this is definitely up to your discretion. It was entertaining, but I could've gone without reading it at the end of the day.

Sorry you didn't like it. I believe I called it an erotic thriller in my review. It's one of the most vulgar books I've read so I can see why people might not enjoy it as much as I did.

I agree with Rachel - I'd definitely classify it as an erotic thriller!
That's also why I advised people to read the amazon preview before they purchased in my review. It definitely gets pretty bad.

But oh well :P I got it for free so I don't really mind hah
This is a great review. I think I rated it a three just based on the writing style and the fact that it was engaging. However, I am so surprised that this is getting such rave reviews based on the actual content. I found that it got so boring halfway through. Maybe because of the erotica or the fact that it was just so bizarre but I ended up being pretty disappointed after all.
Good review Maxwell. I wouldn't have read it, but at least you did and have warned us.
I'm 16% of the way into the audiobook and I haven't gotten to any erotica yet. What I can say, though, is that I imagine this story is probably best told in audio versus print because the narrator is fantastic/realistic and brings the story to life. I'm not sure how I'd fare with the printed version.
Great review! I very much agree, this was more annoying than bad, because of the disturbed vulgarity. The writing was quite fluent, but I just hated how graphic it was.
Totally agree with your review. I feel like I was misled. The story was very predictable, I kept reading, because I was waiting for the big twist, that never came. I trashed the book.

Absolutely agree... didn't love the writing style and felt like I was reading porn, there is no way I would ever recommend this book to anyone, I'm embarrassed that I actually read it! I wish I would've read your review before I bought it.

you didn't read any reviews because you didn't want any spoilers. Then gave it one star basically because of sexual content and vulgarity. i don't think that's really fair.
I don't mind the sexual content, the murder, the vulgarity. I mind the boring. I got bored. Blah blah blah, but I felt like nothing ever happened. I know it's all about him, his thoughts, but it's just too much. And I don't believe you can call a book erotic just because it has sex in it. It's ridiculous
Erotic? Ha! Far from it. This book kept me engaged simply by how perverse it was to my normal thoughts. I have recommended it to so many people and I’m unsure why people are afraid to recommend it? I say “this dude stalks this girl and you somehow end up on his side and it’s so weird but so fascinating� lol seriously... if this is “erotic� I fear for the sex lives of some people....

Completely with you on this. I read it fast because I had hopes of a better plot, but it was predictable and just really rather nasty as well.
Omg I have to say I am so glad that I am not alone with thinking this book was a bit much, there was too much violence and sex and just no reason for it to be there. I could have been a much better book. I thought it was going to be great and even got the second book, but I could not being myself to read it and put them both in the trash. Then the show comes out and everyone loves it!!!! I was like “hey am I missing something�
Personally, I loved the first season on Netflix� But this book is awful and crude!
Like another reviewer said this book is so much better as an audiobook. The character of Joe really comes to life and scarily becomes a lot more likable
Thank you for your review. I hadn't read any reviews beforehand for similar reasons to you; I got two chapters in and couldn't get any further due to some personal issues. I do want to say I find some of the responses to your review kind of ridiculous. Stating that it's not okay to give the book a 1 star rating because of adult content is ridiculous. If that completely ruined the book for someone then that's completely fair. I've read many books that I enjoyed overall but there was an aspect that completely killed it and made me dislike it. The fanboys of this book need to get over themselves. There is no set criteria for how a person has to rate a book.

I agree with you! The entire book felt like a smutty fan-fiction which is not bad, but I would have preferred not wasting my time reading it!
This is all the same issues I had with the book. I give you credit because you made it alot further then I did. It was all to much, and all to disturbing and vulgar.
1 star? Really? Even what you wrote in your so-called review shows this book does not deserve such a low rating from you. Oh, but you found some of the content "offensive," that just be the reason for the ridiculous rating.
