did not like it
bookshelves: 2015, not-for-me, boring, too-much-hype

To survive is painful.

So is trying to get through this book! There has been a ton of hype surrounding Station Eleven and nothing but rave reviews. Someone please explain it to me because I just don’t get it. I wish, I had embarked on the same journey as those readers, but it was like slow torture instead. Boring beyond belief, with a cast of unlikeable characters and a plot that was all over the place.

I wasn't impressed with the author's writing either, as most people seem to be. The only thing that kept me going was the hope that I would be rewarded with an ending that tied all of the weirdness together in an interesting way. That’s not what happened though.

If you start this book and don’t enjoy it immediately, I would move on. It doesn’t get any better.

Haley Oh my gosh. I can't stop laughing! This review is perfect.

I hope our next buddy read is better than this one! What a nightmare.

Susan Smith Wish I'd read this before I struggled through to the end of the book. I had the same hope, but alas.

Margaret Thanks for that. I'm on about page 80 and hating it. I feel justified in giving up, despite the fact that yours is one of only about three negative reviews.

Melissa Susan wrote: "Wish I'd read this before I struggled through to the end of the book. I had the same hope, but alas."

Yeah, this was a tough one. I'm still haunted by it. Lol.

Melissa Margaret wrote: "Thanks for that. I'm on about page 80 and hating it. I feel justified in giving up, despite the fact that yours is one of only about three negative reviews."

I wish I would have given up, Margaret! I'm not sure what everyone else saw in this one. Talk about awful. :(

Margaret Ah well. I did give up. So that's several hours of my life I've gained in not ploughing on. Thanks!

Shailendra Gautam Thanks

Olivia Salioh I have to read this for my english class and im only on page 20 but i already resonate with this review😂 particularly the writting

Mom F Same here. This book just drags. It took me so so long to finish it, almost and should have given up. Why do I have this feeling that a book will get better at one point and that I should keep on reading? Lost of my time.

Jennifer i tried reading this book twice but it was so boring and I kept glossing over the words and not understanding what was happening. So, I give up.

message 12: by Mia (new) - rated it 2 stars

Mia I am over a 100 pages in and still dont enjoy it. Should probably put it down, but already invested time in it so i dont know. I agree, its slow and the characters are not likeable, and its all over the place.

Timothy O'Kane Thank you for sharing this! I thought I might be alone in thinking this book was about as boring as can be; got midway through and just could not go further.

message 14: by Suzy (new) - rated it 2 stars

Suzy Thank you for this review, I completely agree. Painful book and I am ready to give up at page 125

Tamar...playing hooky for a few hours today OMG, thanks for the warning. I own this book but keep shoving further down on the TBR list, this will help me move on. I will give it a shot if I ever have nothing better to do.

Mikala YESSSS!!! I also had the hopes that the jumping storylines and timelines would have an interesting wrap up. NOPE

Rachel Clark I was excited about this book because... you know, we’re in a pandemic ourselves. I was hopeful at the beginning reading about Jeevan filling his carts with essentials and wheeling them to his brothers apartment but then was disappointed to see we jumped right into the future of a post apocalyptic world! I was expecting to follow the pandemic from start to wherever it ended not to jump here there and everywhere in a dystopian world which was quite frankly depressing to read. Not for me!

message 18: by Maggie (new)

Maggie thank you for this I'm literally going through all the 4 and 5 stars reviews I can't even get to the end. I have 100 pages left I can't do it anymore

message 19: by Rosey (new)

Rosey McCafferty Only made it to page 47! And don’t remember anything about those 47 pages! Couldn’t get into this at all.

message 20: by Mari (new) - rated it 2 stars

Mari Wish I’d have read your review sooner, but at 3/4 done, i’m now invested to see what happens. I’m sure it’s anticlimactic, as the entire story was lukewarm, at best. I agree totally about the authors writing, finding it at times cringeworthy. I don’t know what the hoopla is about this book!

message 21: by Dave (new) - rated it 2 stars

Dave McKinley I'm on page 145 and still don't know if the author knows what a period is.

message 22: by Charlene (new) - added it

Charlene 14% into it and I’m fearing I will DNF it.

message 23: by Erge (new)

Erge Edgu-Fry Yep..my thoughts exactly.

Karina Rhode Thanks! Happy to see I'm not the only one! Got 1/3 through the book and I just don't get it. Not wasting any more time knowing it doesn't get any better! You just saved me from wasting my precious reading time on 2/3 more of this!

Monique I bailed quarter of the way through after skipping ahead a few pages to see if anything *happened*...and it didn't. I have better suited to me books to read.

message 26: by Jody (new) - rated it 1 star

Jody I legit couldn’t get past the first chapter. It was an immediate no for me

Franco D 100% agree with you. I don't trust the voting/rating on this site anymore. it's not the first time that I see very high ratings for something that is totally garbage, there must be some foul play there.

message 28: by Ivan (new)

Ivan I am 40 pages in. I'm not digging it. I'm gonna put it down. Thanks for these words "If you start this book and don’t enjoy it immediately, I would move on. It doesn’t get any better."

message 29: by Kay (new) - rated it 1 star

Kay Thanks for your review - I've made it to page 125 by scanning the pages hoping for it to become more interesting - with no luck. Thanks to your review I now know that I don't have to persevere as it doesn't get any better.

message 30: by Les (new) - rated it 2 stars

Les ahhahhaha. i love your review! i just came back to read mine and saw yours and i lol'd SO HARD <3

message 32: by Anna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anna "The only thing that kept me going was the hope that I would be rewarded with an ending that tied all of the weirdness together in an interesting way." They actually did that on the tv adaptation! I liked it way better. Actually cried in the last episode.

message 33: by Susan (new) - added it

Susan I have whiplash with this book. I read a glowing review and think I need to read it. Then I read the synopsis and see a review like yours and think what the heck?! Going to stay with “pass for now. Have you even thought about reading her newest “Sea of Tranquility? I’m leaning in to trying that one first.

message 34: by Amy (new)

Amy Aramburu I tried to get into this book 3 different times…nope. It’s a snooze fest

message 35: by Anna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anna Amy wrote: "I tried to get into this book 3 different times…nope. It’s a snooze fest"

You should try the tv show. The first few episodes are slow but it's worth it. One of the rare times the TV adaptation was WAY better than the original source!

Jordan It was a huge disappointment filled with bland characters and the most anticlimactic ending ever. So mad I fell for the great "corporate"

Jerri I wonder if those that hate this book also hated The Stand by King?

message 38: by Kat (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kat Personally hated this book until page 140. After that, I couldn't put it down! Agree that the characters are hard to embrace, but I still just wanted to know what happened to them!!

Jaime I kept hoping for more. An ending to tie it all together. Then a repeat of the onstage death. Borrrrrring.
