Just as good on the re-read (listen). I had forgotten how gory these books can be. Don't know who was the bigger bitch in this one, Angie or Amanda - not much between them.

ORIGINAL REVIEW ...

I don't know what it is about Will that endears me to him. He is not movie star handsome, he is socially inept in many ways, he is awkward. But he is lovable. He had a tough upbringing but that didn't make him mean and tough, quite the opposite actually.

He wasn't even her type.

We have a situation involving Lena, her mother, Amanda and a cast of characters from the past. But who is guilty? Who is innocent? Slaughter has a great way of writing where you seriously don't know who to believe.

She had been so stupid.
One mistake so many years ago.
One terrible, stupid mistake.

"I changed my mind."

"It's slang for 'cunt'." She laughed.
"Why, Will, are you calling me a cunt?"

If only she knew how many times he'd been tempted.

Yeah, Amanda is a bit of a cunt alright.

Will didn't look up. Instead, he took her hand. His fingers laced through hers.

Angie. What to say about her? I know she had a horrible upbringing but I cannot feel sympathy or empathy for her. I just cannot.

This was their dance.
Anger.
Fear.
Violence.
Never compassion.
Never kindness.

I swear there was one scene and I was literally holding my breath.

His breath caught when her hand slipped inside his shirt. Her fingers brushed over his chest, down his belly. She didn't flinch. Instead she put her forehead to his, looked him in the eye ...

Was there closure? Was there a HEA? Did they get their white picket fence in the country? You will just have to read it and see.... There is a lot more to come out in future books, I think. All I can say is that I love Will and Sara. And I hate Angie. Did I already say that?

Quotes Mo Liked

Karin Slaughter
“There were a few things she knew about Will Trent. He was tall, at least six-three, with a runner's lean body and the most beautiful legs she had ever seen on a man. His mother had been killed when he was less than a year old. He'd grown up in a children's home and never been adopted. He was a special agent with the GBI. He was one of the smartest men she had ever met, and he was so dyslexic that, as far as she could tell, he read no higher than a second-grade level.”

Karin Slaughter
“Sara was reminded of yet another one of Will's traits, which was that he had an uncanny knack for keeping his mouth shut when he didn't know what to say. This resulted in the sort of awkward moments that made Sara's dating life look downright ebullient.”
Karin Slaughter, Fallen

Karin Slaughter
“Will let out a long breath. "She leaves me a lot. That's what she does. She leaves, and then she comes back. And then she stays some and then she leaves again."
"Where does she go?"
"I have no idea."
"You've never asked her?"
"No."
Sara Didn't pretend to understand. "Why not?".
He glanced out into the street, watching the traffic zoom by. "It's complicated.”

Lisazj1 Love the review, great visuals! And hating Angie cannot be repeated enough!

The next book is much, MUCH different but.....you get just about all the answers to questions you might have. And they are just jaw-dropping too.

Thanks. Yes, Sara. But he has a past with Angie... not usually into the whole Triangle thing but it is not really a triangle... it's hard to explain. I am hoping Angie will be out the picture real soon ....

Janey Great review, Mo. You grab the best visuals. I have a friend who adores this author. I might have to add her. Can this be read standalone, or should I follow the series?

Thanks Janey. Better to follow the series I think. Although the author does say you could read them as standalones.

Piper Okay, so..... first (because well, first is first)... another marvelous review. Now then, I'm with Karen. I'm so confused!!! But that's okay- I think :o Lol I will go back and look over all of these after you've finished, and if that doesn't clear things up for me, then I will just read the damn books and maybe then it will make sense!!! I'm not catholic but I'm still with Karen on the permanence thing too. Oh, and I think I hate Angie as well even though I have no idea who the bitch is!!! This is so great!!! Sharon- are you on the first one? Oh, lastly- the mug.... yeah- great mug!!! :) xx

Didi Awesome review once again, Mo. This series looks interesting and I'm glad to see some minor romance showing up. That mug, though! I'd love one of those, even if given as a gift! Lol. And I love the quote by Lang leav, she's so spot on with her take on emotion. Is this the final book then? I know you mentioned the possibility of more.
