it was amazing
bookshelves: historical-highness, classic-captivaton, adult-books-read

Despite finishing this over a week ago, I have staved off from writing a review as I feel anything I could write would not do the sublime elegance and exquisiteness of this book justice. The characters and their emotions are displayed in a raw and unapologetic way, their stories are dynamic and compelling, their plights are austere and penetrating, and the writing is evocative and exalted. I urge anyone and everyone to read this hard-hitting, powerful and corporeal book as it has such an important story to tell!

Adrianna Sonnen I agree with you. This book is hard to write a review because I feel I would leave something out. The characters had a way of making me feel their emotions which at some points were hard for me to keep my composure. I felt the language Alice Walker chose added so much detail to the story which helped with the emotion aspect. To be honest, I feel this book would not be the same without the raw and unapologetic language. I also feel to an extent that everyone should read this book. The storyline can teach everyone a lesson and allow readers to see a unique style of writing.

You conveyed everything about this book so much better than I could ever could! It is so hard to write about as it does and says so much about so many topics and injustices. Such a brilliantly moving book.
