it was amazing
bookshelves: public-library, ebook, nonfiction, read-in-2017

It seems fitting to have read this book interspersed with knitting sessions this month to complete my pussyhat for the AntiTrump Women's March this Saturday. Some of what made this book juicy for me is the pointed way she explicates important issues, making my heart swell and my mind say "yes, true." (Or sometimes making my anger bubble up. In other words, she elicits feelings, which tell me what she's saying matters.) I look forward to reading more by this talented essayist, whose concerns are wide ranging, not just gender issues though that's the primary focus of this book. This book includes a number of essays, all of which are powerful: clear, witty, well-written, and true. Many, many passages highlighted. Strongly commended.

A postscript: Grateful too that such books are available as ebooks from my public library.

Judy Review, please!

Yvonne S Okay! Here it comes!

Yvonne S BTW, here's a piece of it that will give you an idea of its flavor.

Yvonne S From today's New York Times in an article about the World Economic Forum meeting in Switzerland: "Bias is a big theme today. At a session that Ms. Bohnet moderates on forecasting bias, two professors one male, one female present together. He presents first; she doesn’t interrupt him once. When she speaks, he interrupts her six times once, as he puts it, to clarify, before repeating what she said just 30 seconds earlier."

Judy Sheesh! I started reading the article linked above, but I have a lot going on right now so haven't finished it.

Do you read the Yarn Harlot? (Knitting blog out of Canada.) She said something about sexism the other day and linked it with Trump, and boy did she ever get responses! 649, at last count. Fascinating.

One reader suggested keeping something rainbow-colored on the needles for the next 4 years in quiet protest -- I like that!
