4 'WTF Is Going On' Stars

In all honesty I was leaning more towards a 3 Star rating for this book since I had some issues with it. But even through my issues I was very intrigued and it kept me up all night reading because I needed to get to the end to find out what the hell was going on. For that fact alone this book deserves 4 Stars from me.



Rika is excited to finally be free of her current life situation and go away to college in a town where no one knows her or her past. But the very first day of her 'freedom' she realizes she was wrong about no one knowing her there when she runs into her ex's brother. Michael was always the interesting one to her, the one she wanted to know more about but was also scared to find out what he was hiding. Looks like it's time to find out all his dirty secrets.

Michael has been waiting a long time to get Rika all to himself and now his chance has finally come. He has many plans for her, and not one of them is good. He wants revenge for what happened years ago and it's time for Rika to finally learn what he's been hiding and pay the price of her mistakes.



Corrupt warns that it's a dark romance, but I was not expecting so much darkness in this book. I went in thinking it would be a forbidden-romance type of story with maybe a little bit of darkness. What I got was a crazy group of people hell bent on revenge and willing to do anything to get it.



I had issues with the story since the boys were being so cruel and I didn't know why. I think I needed at least a hint of what happened in the past so that I could understand why they were going out of there way to make Rika's life absolute hell. Without knowing why it was happening I was getting really angry and the questions were killing me.



I can't say how I feel about Michael or the other guys because I honestly don't know. I was angry at them the majority of the book and hated them for doing what they did but at the end I kind of understood why they did it. So really there is just a bunch of confusing emotions swirling around and I can't pinpoint which ones I actually feel the most.



As for Rika, I wanted her to be a little stronger than she was. There were a lot of times that I would have loved to see her stand up for herself more than she did and not take their shit. I understood why she felt like she had to follow what they said, but at the same time she came off as weak for most of the book.



Overall, I did have many issues with the story and the events that took place but in the end I did enjoy the reading experience. When I look back at the book as a whole I can see the good part of having so many secrets but while I was reading it, it was just a little annoying to have so many unknowns. I still highly recommend this story and just urge people to push through the slow parts.
