An enjoyable read but I am afraid Wolf Hall has ruined me for historical fiction set in this period. I kept waiting for Cromwell to walk in and organise everything! There has been a lot of criticism about this book being light on historical fact but since it is fiction I did not mind that. I wondered if it limited itself by telling it through the character of Mary. She was not a very politically aware or even especially intelligent person and seeing the story unfold though her eyes alone made it a little less gripping than it could have been. Still a good easy read with an interesting take on the relationship between the Boleyn siblings.

Cathrine ☯️ I liked the movie. Also just finished watching White Queen. I'm thinking I'll never get to the actual books but they make for entertaining films.

Diane S ☔ I too really enjoyed the movie.

B the BookAddict Excellent point about Wolf Hall, Phrynne!

The books are much more historically accurate. I, too, watched the series first and enjoyed it. I wonder how Gregory felt about the series portrayal. I think she was historical adviser or some such. The series spurred me on the reading the books I actaully found that I liked the books more.

Cathrine ☯️ I had Wolf Hall on DVR but never got to it and it got deleted. I was reading negative comments (very s-l-o-w) and I think that influenced me.

I wanted to read the Gregory books but I just don't have the discretionary time anymore with so many TBRs and I really enjoy being surprised by good films that I enjoy because I'm not comparing them to the inevitably better books. Gotta choose my battles :)

Phrynne I loved Wolf Hall as a book and also as a TV series. The actor playing Cromwell was brilliant. Anne was memorable to.

Canadian Jen Oh I enjoyed this one so much - both the book and the movie!

Ace Same here Phrynne, havent returned to the Gregory series because of Wolf Hall and indeed because of Cromwell. Also loved the WH series as it captured the book well I thought.

Sharon Robards This was the first book I read of Philippa Gregory's and I loved it because I knew almost nothing about this period. It sent me off to read a few more of her books.

Phrynne I guess I already knew a lot about this period but Philippa Gregory puts a new slant on things with the way she draws their characters.

Sharon Robards Pyrynne, I was so not up to date on Henry VIII, that despite knowing he had married seven times, and had thought all his wives had been beheaded, I have since read about every wife and the authors did such a good job that every time I got to a beheading I was shocked LOL

I was pleasantly surprised not all his wives were beheaded.

Phrynne He was certainly an amazing character:)

Sharon Robards Psychotic, perhaps :D

B the BookAddict Certainly power-mad, despotic, lecherous and fueled by his want/need to have a legitimate male heir and a 'spare'.

Remember the rhyme:

"King Henry VIII,
to six wives he was wedded.
one died, one survived,
two divorced, two beheaded."

B the BookAddict I found The Boleyn Inheritance to be captivating reading; Jane Boleyn was a piece of work!
