Is there a reason why this had to be written from a female POV? I am asking because I would have never guessed the narrator was a girl if it wasn't specifically mentioned in the story. In fact, for the 1st quarter of the novella I was sure it was being narrated by a guy, and even after that point Mia remained more of a Michael to me.

Plus, if you are sure your work is crap (see the book description), why would you encourage readers to pay $25 for it? Just because it has your name on it? If you want to help a cause why not put your best effort into it? I just don't get the logic here.

Otherwise, Zombicorns is a decent novella, but it lacks a firm intention. Like the author noted himself, something about this story is too muddy in the middle. Whatever he was trying to get to with the corn part didn't come through.

Cassie Oh man, I'm curious as well!

Tatiana I have no idea what it is, but it's available to read for free, so I'll check it out.

Kat Kennedy linkalicious? Also, sometimes you find the coolest books.

Kat Kennedy Nevermind, found it!

Samantha hahaha! John Green does vlogs with his brother that has a pretty large following. I think this may be a result of a "punishment" that his brother and the fans of the vlog thought up for him. But don't quote me on that.

This was popular with our GR crowd a couple of months ago, someone else brought it to light. I am just slow to catch up.

Actually, it took me a year (?) to catch up?

How flighty we are!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* Wow I went and nabbed this one too, can't resist that title. :)

Arie ☂ For most of it I was convinced it was a male narrated. Totally threw me for a loop when I found out it was a girl!

Tatiana Even when the narrator mentioned having sex with a guy, I was sure it was a m/m scenario.

Jessica-Robyn To clear up any confusion Samantha is on the right track with why the book was written in the first place. If I'm remembering correctly John wrote this as an exercise for NaNoWriMo. I'm not totally sure it was ever meant to see the light of day but it was offered as an Nerdfighter incentive prize for charity donations. It was later put out for free when other core Nerdfighters wanted to read it. It's meant as a joke novella, and wasn't really meant to be taken seriously but I think a bit of confusion arose when other people started reading it for reals-ies. :)

Tatiana It doesn't exactly read like a joke though. The corn part is quite satirical, yes, but as a whole it's not that funny actually.

Jessica-Robyn Yes, I know, I feel like we've gotten caught in semantics. (I meant it as joke non-serious, rather then joke-haha) The comment was more about "why would you encourage readers to pay $25" aspect of your review, rather then the plot itself. :)

Tatiana Oh, I see.

$25 is a bit steep of a request though, even for a good cause.

Jessica-Robyn That's probably one of the reasons it was relased for free but there were a number of different prizes at different price points so they weren't trying to shake you down to bad. :P

Tatiana I don't know why I am even complaining, cause I read it for free:) But his note at the beginning of this novella annoyed me too much.

Jessica-Robyn Nah, I can dig. This conversation also reminded me that I hadn't added this to my list yet. Now, I really want to see what all the fuss is about.

message 19: by Ashley (new)

Ashley It was written for a book challenge where you have to write a novel in a month

message 20: by Emily (new)

Emily John Green is half of a huge YouTube channel called the vlogbrothers, and on the channel he challenged viewers to donate to his charity to decrease world suck, and at every my marker he or his brother (the other half of the vlogbrothers) would do something as incentive for donating more money. This novella was one of those things

Mike Cowin In regard to your comment, John wrote this in a month, so that's great, and he wrote it for a charity. So, the nerdfighters were not paying for the book, but for the satisfaction of donating to charity (and getting this great novella) DFTBA :)

message 22: by Katerina (new)

Katerina He has lots of other books, which are fantastic, and this was just to raise money for a charity. That's why it's $25.

✿.Ⓐⓟⓞⓞⓡⓥⓐ.✿ Yeah... It's kinda for fun and just for charity, so this is awesome compared to what most people do. He's amazing :)
DFTBA

message 24: by Alex (new) - added it

Alex Concerning the $25 part: He was just using this book as another way to get people to donate to charities. That part of the introduction might have been written for the 1 person who was supposed to win this for donating to charity.
