A COURT OF MIST AND FURY
*SPOILERS*
Short bullet highlights here before my notes I wrote (seriously wrote out my thoughts as I was reading the book!)
Night court EVERTHING ABOUT IT IS SO AWESOME
Rhysands POV and insight to the whole ACOTAR story and his history.
The Court of Dreams my heart burst
Rhysands family unit. squad goals I love every single one of them
o Mor, Azriel, Cassien, Amren, Rhys, and Feyre
Honest healthy communication and relationships! More details and thoughts below
NO LOVE TRIANGLE (thank goodness this YA wasn’t about a love triangle)
So much plot development! Action and suspense and heartbreak and hope and joy and dreams and nightmares and more!
How much I love RHYS. His viewpoint on Feyre. On how much he cares/respects/and supports her as an equal in every way.

-This book being about friendships.--trusting, empowering relationships in wake of traumatic experience.
-Explores how trauma changes people.
-Showcases fact that other people can not heal you, complete you, or give you purpose--you do that yourself and grow to love yourself first before you can find happiness with someone else.
-Portraying PTSD is realistic manner.
-Not every first love is your soulmate. (Realistic)
-Rhys and Feyre becoming friends first to have that foundation then growing from there and falling in love with or without the mating bond. SO IMPORTANT- no swaying or seductive persuasion there to love each other due to the bond. (NO INSTALOVE with Rhys)--((tam being the INSTALOVE and Feyre realising that. Tam being a tool and not wanting Feyre to be trained, or high lady or expected to bear his children without her even consenting to it or blatantly ignoring her physical and mental health deterioration and his controlling traits that make me want to scream. Whereas RHYS--kind, sensitive, compassionate, attentive, selfless, considerate, wanting an EQUAL!)
-Having MALE character being sexually abused.
-Showing male/female depictions of sexual abuse/abusive relationships.
-Showing corrupt ways of gender roles (and Rhys liberating them in his court)
-Female characters looking out for each other.
-Strong female heroines who don't need men to save her--her journey of self discovery: who she is, what she is capable of, what she deserves and what she doesn't have to put up with is just so wonderful to see her grow.
-Realistic anxiety and depression.
-Rhys being a feminist. *sighs dreamily*
PART 1 SPOILERS
My thoughts as I was reading the book
Aye! Already 20 pages into the book and the smut was off the CHARTS! I felt like by page 24 I shouldn’t be reading this book in public. **Blushes**
Okay, so part one was hard to read overall. It was so dark and these two characters (Tamlin and Feyre) are just so broken from what they both endured under the mountain. They don’t acknowledge the problems that they are facing because they either don’t want to deal with the consequences or they feel like they aren’t ready to talk about it. If they would just have honest communication then I feel like they can work on some of the issues
Feyre, poor girl, having to murder to save everyone will definitely break her. I can see why they are broken, and why they are each acting the way they are at this time (coping in some way). I can’t help but want to scream at these two “JUST GET SOME SPACE AND SORT YOUR SH*T OUT. YOUR RELATIONSHIP IS GETTING TOXIC!
With those two in turmoil basically leaves a clear shot for Rhys to shine. Now, I didn’t really like him too much in the first book because I didn’t know if I could trust him. I have to say that Rhys is really becoming a star in this sequel. We get to see a bit more into his character and his backstory and his home life. Although there is an air of mystery surrounding him (as always), I feel like I know/like him better than Tamlin.
I don’t know how SJM does this. I always seem to switch ships in mid-series! As of right now, I feel like Rhys is so good for Feyre and I’m excited to see what happens with them. I’m so conflicted. I hope either Rhys ends up with Feyre or they become besties. Rhys has really shone that he is quite perfect for Feyre (the new Feyre, not the mortal who needed protecting all the time- but the new and improved hopefully bad*ss girl she turns out to be).
PART 2
OMG RHYS. His character development is so beautiful as we get to see more and more into the reasons and explanations and can I just say that He is SO FUCKING WONDERFUL. I CAN’T EVEN WITH HOW BRAVE AND LOYAL AND COMPASSIONATE HE IS.
I officially love Rhys and wouldn’t mind Feyre with him, I actually want it to happen. I have officially switched ships.
I love how this isn’t a love triangle though!
It was about Feyre leaving a toxic relationship to find herself again. To become whole and who she’s meant to be. Rhys is an added bonus. He supports her in the most beautiful and positive way it’s making my heart crumble and swell at the same time.
Plot thickens with the revelation of king Hybern being alive and trying to destroy the world basically. Now we have a mission. A Task to strive for.
Feyre leaving Tamlin just about destroyed me even though I could see how Tamlin wasn’t treating Feyre right. It wasn’t until page 296 when I started seeing Tamlins actions through Feyres new perspective. I WAS AS BLIND AS FEYRE WAS IN LOVE. Love can blind you, and I was right there with Feyre as she was going through this. I mean when she fights her way to a conclusion and resolutions (punching scene with Cassian had me in tears) and she states “that he didn’t try hard enough, he sat there beside amaranths throne while she was risking her life and when he had a chance to see her and risk freeing her (WHICH I NEVER THOUGHT OF AS AN OPTIONS BECAUSE I WAS SO BLIND) and she says that he “fucks me instead of trying to free her. He fought for her but not until he had his powers back.
I was stock-still and shocked to my core.
I gasped and was like lightbulb moment “You’re fucking right.
He didn’t fight hard enough and try to kill her……what a prick. I can’t believe I didn’t see that before, but rhysand did as a he tried to kill Amaranth for what he did to him and to Feyre. Oh I was so moved by this realization scene she had while boxing with Cassian. The feels and I was officially team Feyre for anything she wants. (Rhys supporting her and building her back up for her and she not using him as a crutch is beautiful and well written.)
I can’t right now.
The weaver scene. EWWW. EWWWW. NAH AH. THAT’S A NOPE. I was gagging when she got to the “Hay roof and the “slick chimney. Gags but so creepy and well written and showed great character growth for Feyre. Nicely, superbly done.
Feyre falling into Tamlin’s prejudice way of thinking because her standards had fallen so low was so eye opening. I seriously didn’t see how much had been taken from her until I saw her with rhys.
Feyre needs to find a way to first and foremost love herself (as Rhys stresses multiple times).
Amren and Feyre scene and returning with half the book was AMAZING. Plus, we get to see a small bond form between them (Amren and Feyre). And Feyre LAUGHED for the first time in sooo long. You can see her starting to heal and grow and its beautiful. You can see the bonds forming within Rhys chosen family and Feyre. How she is slowly bonding with all of them and becoming a part of the family. I love how they all are not blood related, but family by choice because sometime that’s the strongest part of a family, the choice and loyalty and compassion.
Rhys and his incessant teasing and driving me MAD with crazy emotions. Sexual tension is HIGH.
Rhys’s poor nightmares.. Feyre gets to see a vulnerable side to him and its so heart-breaking to see he gets nightmares too and that he was broken along with Feyre.
Love how Feyre was there to support and comfort rhys through his nightmares and vice versa where Rhys has been there for Feyre.
And Feyre being actually strong there for Rhys Through that way of theirs—to make eachother feel something (anything) when either of them are having a bad day. To feel anger, loathing, annoyance, teasing, lust, kindness, compassion—just anything is better than nothing, better than that hollowness that’s swallowed feyre so much in the beginning.
They are helping each other heal—Not as a CRUTCH but to grow and be better. To look beyond the dark past and see a glimmer of hope for the future The Court of Dreams * Swoons*
RHYS RHYS RHYS
Being amazing and stressing how “it’s your choice. Always giving her the choice, the freedom to choose, something I didn’t realize was taken from when she was with Tamlin. I didn’t realize Tamlin loving her too much would be a bad thing until it started getting toxic. That Tam would do anything and ANYTHING to keep her safe, even if it meant keeping her locked up (which was thankfully the last straw).
Thank you rhys for saving her from that place (the place she use to call home). THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU RHYS.
For not caring what others think—for being specifically different and your own person and owning it—For going against societal norms and wishes—for doing the right thing in the hardest circumstances—for having a heart of gold, even having to hide it from others.
SO I officially hate Tamlin. Hate him for doing that to Rhys’s mother and sister. I hate him for lying and manipulating and all the crap he did to Feyre. What a prick.
Rhys is her MATE?!?!?!?! WHAT OMG WHAT EVEN. I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW I COULD CRY.
Part 3
O.M.G.
RHYS’s confession of his storyline he had for the before ACOTAR all the way until now. Sobbing
ugly cries
When Feyre speaks her heart to him after his story and he just cries into her shoulder and hugs to her to him because he is so happy and just AGH. more sobs
ERMAGERD
Steamy smut and mating bond!!!! Admission of feelings!
Feyre seeing a future with Rhys and his family and wanting to LIVE. Wanting a life now. Wanting to be her own person! SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CHARACTER ARC AND DEVELOPMENT!
DAT ENDING! Tamlin you dick. I can’t believe you would do that!!
SCARED ME SO BAD WHEN I THOUGHT THE BOND WAS BROKEN!
SJM .. you and your way of making me panic when you hide information until the end. I love it. And I hate it. So thank you.
With the cauldron Badass Feyre and Rhys and his court. OMG the way Feyre and Rhys can manipulate and play together to deceive everyone.
Nesta and Elain becoming FAE!!!!! IMMORTAL!
Genius. Utter genius.
LOL to Lucien not believing a word of Feyres lies to Tam and Tam just gobbling it up.
BOOM That’s right! You can’t take a mating bond away! Just the bargain which I was sad to see go but HIGH LADY OF THE NIGHT COURT. HOLY HELL YES!
HIS QUEEN.
HE MADE HER HIS EQUAL IN EVERYWAY WITH THE HIGH LADY. Friend. Lover. Mate. Family. Equals. Queen to his Court.
HECK YES RHYS. Going against their Fae societal norms of “there’s no high lady, just high lords
Rhys is all like GIRL POWER. Equals! I love him. Even more so now and in every way.
Hopes for next book:
I totally ship Cassien and Nesta. Oh yes. I think this a thing. Especially with that special short story!
 Azriel and More better happen.
Elain and LUCIEN?! OMG WHAT EVEN
Feyre kicking ass and bringing down Spring Court and Tamlin and all her enemies.
The court of dreams family bickering.
Nestsa and Elain seeing the night court and hopefully change their perspectives about fae once they see Velaris.
 Heist of any kind.
 Feyre’s powers grow!
RHYS. And his reunion with Feyre.
 EVERYTHING
