liked it
bookshelves: dystopian-post-apocalyptic-utopian, young-adult, read-2011

I liked this well enough, but feel that it's a little slight in plot and structure; I also wasn't enthralled by any of the main characters. Overall, it's a quick, entertaining read, but not a particularly deep or memorable one. This is one of those rare occasions when the film might actually be better than the book.

MD I agree- I liked it well enough but it was definitely not spectacular.

Pricky I really had a hard time with this one...especially with all the hype that went into it. While it's an interesting premise, the characters, plot, and writing style just didn't leave a lasting impression.

Wendy Darling Yes....I'm interested enough to pick up Crossed at some point just to see what happens and if there is more development in plot and character, but I'm in no particular hurry.

KJ Shadows there was a movie on matched? wha? I never knew that 0.0

Elisa Gautam I heard Matched was gonna be made into a movie by Disney but I'm not sure.

Wendy Darling Yes, it's being made into a film by Disney.

Elisa Gautam Hopefully it can be better than the book but knowing Disney, it probably be a okay movie.

Daisy I could imagine the movie being better than the book. But then again I thought that I am Number Four would make a good movie. I guess it all depends on how well it's done.

Stine This is more or less what I felt after I had finished the book.

Noa Benveniste I agree with you that this book wasn't spectacular, but I did enjoy it. It had a similar idea to many other dystopian books that I've read, but that was ok with me because I enjoy that type of book. I definitely agree that this was a quick read, I actually couldn't put it down until I finished it. I guess that type of read is for the teenage audience, not too deep, something that they can relate to, and fast. I thought it was interesting that she used so much poetry in her writing. Through the poetry Condie connects all of her characters. I really enjoyed the character Cassia's relationship with her grandfather. He seemed like a thoughtful man and I actually wish that we had seen a little more of him in the book. He seemed more like a father figure to Cassia than her father did, although he wasn't totally unemotional to her like many fathers are in these types of books. I thought it was interesting that Cassia's father risked his perfect record to fulfill his father's requests of making his tissue sample disappear after he died. Also, the way that the old die is terrible. I found it horrifying that the society's leaders would allow them to be poisoned slowly in order to die on a certain day. Anyways, I would like to see this as a movie, I feel that it would be better because there wasn't a huge plot that the movie makers have to account for and they could make it even more dramatic in a movie than in the book, but I would be scared of it turning out like Twilight did.
