HERE'S ANOTHER GR GIVEAWAY I WON'T WIN - YIPEE!!!!

Here's why:

I have too many GR friends and books. I mean, who needs a review or friends to read it? Much better to let a book like this languish in the never-never land of 0-books-0-friends world. Much better that a giveaway junkie who really just wants a freebie will win this instead of a 3 year member who takes the time to read and review books.

It's not as though I'm a du Maurier fan or anything. Nah, not me. Nope. Nuh-uh.

I think I've been blacklisted from GR Giveaways for daring to request the.... HALF STAR ...shhhhhh, that's kinda like the name "Voldemort" - bad things happen to those of us who mention the "rating-update-that-must-not-be-named".

I like rejection. It makes me know I'm alive. Kinda like bungee jumping but safer.

Getting mad at those freeloader GR Giveaway winners who don't deserve it is good, clean FUN!

Ah, rant over. Nothing more to see here, move along.

Tatiana Feeling better?;)

What I would recommend you is to join Library Thing. IDK why exactly, but I manage to win something there almost every month.

As for GR giveaway, I haven't won anything in probably a year.

Is there any costs involved in Librarything? If not, I'll look into it. My budget won't allow for $$ to buy or mail back books. Only library or re-reads these days.

message 3: by Misfit (new) - added it

Misfit Same here, I'm always winning at LT and I've got a small back log.

message 4: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana No payments involved. Just become a member, join the group I gave you the link to, and you are all set. The giveaways work the same way it works here, on GR. The chances of winning are much higher though.

message 5: by Misfit (new) - added it

Misfit LT has a limit on books you can shelve, and then they have a small fee. I just keep mine under that cap. I'm rarely there at all, it isn't very sociable, but I do win books.

I see The Winter Palace: A Novel of Catherine the Great and The Dressmaker: A Novel are both on November's giveaway list.

message 6: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana I only joined for the giveaways, so the book limit doesn't bother me. I honestly don't know why would anyone want to pay for shelving their books on LT when they can do it for free here.

message 7: by Hannah (new) - added it

Hannah Thanks to both of you for the info. I will definitely try it out, and possibly win something for a change :)

message 8: by Misfit (new) - added it

Misfit Same here, I just don't *get* anything from LT. I know there are groups but they didn't interest me. I know I have friends like I do here, but I don't see how I can interact with them like we do here.

Kim Glad you got that off your chest, Hannah?

*gives Hannah a big hug and a chocolate cupcake*

A cupcake from you is the ultimate in comfort food HEAVEN! I can taste it through the thousand of miles that seperate us :D

Kim Awwwww! *blushes*

Oh, I don't know....does anyone know if the LT site is as spazzy and has frequent crashes? ;-) If not, they're using that money in the right way.

Arlene LOL Hannah! You said what is on many peoples' minds. I think the biggest disqualifier here is that you actually read, rate and review the books you get a hold of. :/ I seriously think I'm on to something here... :P I still hope you win this book. If your rant gets you this book ~bows to Hannah~ hats off to you. You deserve it. :D

Thank you Wonder!
I get so discouraged when I see a book I really, really want on the giveaways, because I know I won't win it. But even worse, someone who doesn't give a crap will.

message 15: by Jemidar (last edited Nov 08, 2011 03:28PM) (new)

Jemidar It's harder down here in Oz because we don't qualify for most of the 'big' books the US does, and then when I finally find something I would like to read and review after sifting through all the dross offered to us down here, it goes without saying--I NEVER WIN IT. I HAVE NEVER EVER WON ANYTHING ON GR! ZIP. ZILCH. NADA. So for me it's not a case of 'I used to win when I first joined' as I hear a lot of people say, I've just never won :-(.

(And make mine brownies Kim ;-D.)

I know. Most of these giveaways are only for the US, and of the few I see that are international, there are only a few copies being offered.

I feel your pain, Jemidar. These giveaways are a joke. I don't know why I even keep trying, but then I see a book like this and I feel compelled.

*Hugs Jemidar*
*Sends brownies*

message 18: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar Thanks Hannah and Kim :-).

message 19: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar At least we have good friends to pout and sulk with!

message 20: by Kim (new)

Kim I've never tried for a giveaway and I don't think I will bother. I hate rejection.

message 21: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar No, I don't think I'll bother anymore either. We don't get the good stuff down here anyway, so it's not often that I really want to read one of the books offered to us, I mostly enter for books that I wouldn't mind reading but don't want to lay money down for.

message 22: by Amy (new)

Amy S I know you wrote this a long time ago, but that was still awesome!

Hannah Amy wrote: "I know you wrote this a long time ago, but that was still awesome!"

Actually, this was yesterday's rant I typed up. I saw that this book that I had marked a few months ago for the TBR pile was on a GR Giveaway and decided to enter once again.

But thanks!

message 24: by Amy (new)

Amy S Oh, okay! Still awesome!

Barb Funny stuff that!

message 26: by Barb (new) - added it

Barb and I just entered...if I win you can read mine!

Sounds like a plan. I'll do the same for you.

Good luck to both of us.

message 28: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I've been an active member here for 3 years. The first year I won 5 books. For the past 2 years, nothing. I think you're on to something here. It's as if you are cutoff once you're an established member.

I get a book every few months from LibraryThing. And a lot of book blogs and twitter have giveaways. I regularly host giveaways on my blog. Good luck!

Thank you Leslie! I've heard the same thing you mentioned by others - I think you're right. I appreciate the encouragement :)

message 30: by Kathy (new) - added it

Kathy I know it's been almost a year since you posted this, but seriously what's with the giveaways here!? I have yet to win one, but then I see people with 0, friends, 2 books, and no profile pic win all the time!

Ok. I'm done ranting now too.

Hi Kathy! I understand completely what you're feeling. The "system" that GR must use on these giveaways is seriously in need of tweaking. I'd build one that would disqualify the 0 books/0 friends people entirely, but I've seen suggestions like that on the feedback forum, and the powers-that-be seem to feel that's discriminatory. Heck yes!! Why give books to freeloaders who just want a book and won't review it or have friends to see the review and (possibly) purchase the book?? Makes no sense to me.

Good luck with trying. I hope you eventually win something :^)
