Leslie That does not bode well. I didn't like the movie but I thought that had to do with the director's vision. People had told me the book was better.

Andrea The strange thing is, I didn't mind the movie, which I saw AFTER attempting to read the book. My mother feels exactly the same way.

Basically, there's languid (which I like) and there's slow. Atonement, the book, was the latter.

You might like his style, though. Just get it out of the library and give it a go.

Leslie What had annoyed me about the movie was the repetitive noise - piano note, shooting of horses, other sound repetition.
And it just seemed so "full of itself". I did like the "aging" of the writer responsible for the whole tale and the way it was "tied up" at the end.
