it was ok

I'm conflicted about this book. I don't know whether I hate it or like it. It describes our country's awful reality as it is, but it has nothing to do with poetry!

Maryam Poetry has no language standards anymore, I guess.
I think it should now be defined as 'whatever makes you feel confused, sad, rebellious, or wish you never read it.'
This book makes you go through them all.

Zainab Ammar Well, I just love the classic way of writing poetry, I love the good arabic rythme. It's true that I felt all of what you've said and I liked it but it still doesn't make sense to me. I mean he can write short stories or something!

Maryam Think about it thit way, traditional Arabic poetry is mostly about the language of the poem not the content of it. This type of poetry is mainly about the message he wants to send to the world through the poem. If it was all rhythmical with fancy Arabic words, the reader will mostly focus on the beauty of the language rather than what the poet wants to say. Almost all the, let's say revolutionary, poetry I have follows the same writing style he follows.
It's not about enjoying the language, it's about feeling and this is the beauty of this type of poetry. :D

Maryam I have read*

Zainab Ammar Take Ahmed Matar's poetry for example, he can write an amazing rhythmic poem that sends a deep message at the same time. I'm not saying that I don't like this, it was absolutely full of meaningful words but it would have been better if it was classified in a different genre. If I showed you a good quote with a great message would you call it poetry?

Zainab Ammar I'm too picky when it comes to poetry, I believe that good poems should combine a beautiful language and a deep message, either both or none.

Maryam Well what class would it be put under if not poetry? It certainly can't be a short story since there is no plot nor characters in the sense of story elementals. It can't also be classified as 'quotes' since there is no such a class. :P
Perhaps we can say it's a collection of thoughts neatly written. :P

Zainab Ammar I think that describes it perfectly! :D
