did not like it
bookshelves: wall-of-shame, horror

That's it. My last Dean Koontz. Koontz, like Stephen King, wrote some truly good books. Scary, thrilling, page-turners that had great plots and likeable, believeable, and horrible characters. Many of Dean Koontz's books had noble themes, and endings that gave one a sense of justice and purpose after the chaos of the story. Stephen King has written undisputable horror classics. Then, both Stephen and Dean began to write hundreds of books. Hundreds. Cha-ching. And did it affect the quality? Yes, it did. I just must be a slow learner, because until today, I just kept buying them. Some people may not agree with me, but then some people can read one Harlequin Romance after another for years and never get bored with them. Like a drug, you just want to relive the experience of reading that first wonderful book again. I'll never forget those first characters I couldn't get enough of, and how I fell in love with the noble, intelligent dogs, as in Watchers. But book after book, will never match the thrill of the first one. In the 80's, every great movie had at least one crappy sequel. Today we seem to be doing the same thing with books. Well, I, for one am going to swear off sequels from now on.

Checkman Well said. Or perhaps that should be well posted? Anyway you hit the bullseye.

Deniz Since Duma Key, Stephen King is on his way back to his former glory.

Cranky Commentary (Melinda) Yes, Benjamin and Deniz, I may have to take that back. I haven't read King's 11-22-63, but several people I know highly recommend it.

Heidi Whurr I agree. These authors churn out books at a phenomenal rate, but their quality is terrible. Its almost insult to their readers. Do they honestly think just because it has Dean Koontz or Steven King written on the cover, we'll automatically like it? Yes they must do. I hated this book. The characters were terrible, there was no development of them and I really couldn't have cared less about them. I was supposed to be rooting for Molly and her husband? I wanted them dead! They were so annoying, wishy washy...pointless. And the plot was rubbish. Glad you agree x

Thurston I am getting to the point where I don't think they are doing the actual writing any more. It is a formula and they employ people to follow the formula. They are out enjoying life, not writing. Anyway who the heck would pay 30, 20 or 10 dollars for a book??? Thank you library!

Cranky Commentary (Melinda) Update: Ok. I read 11-22-63. Heidi, so glad for your comment. Thurston, if they are still writing, after reading this last (and I do mean last) book by King, I am starting to wonder if they get paid by the word. Seven hundred and some pages of blah-blah-blah. So happy most libraries are even loaning to our Kindles now!
