Still a good installment to the Death Note series but I can't say I was as enamored with this volume as I saw with the previous three. The plot still surprised me at every turn and remained as action-packed as ever but the addition of the character Misa was a let-down for me. I was hoping for some bad-ass girl power but what I received was a submissive girl who falls in love at first sight and is displayed in an entirely sexual nature. She also showed up previously unseen flaws in Light's own character that made my alignment with his cause dwindle a little. He was dismissive, uncaring for her feelings and quickly wrote her off as an 'idiot'. I have been entirely behind his immoral cause, as is underlying ideals were just, but it seems now that he willing to sacrifice and use innocents and get rid of any minor inconvenience in any way necessary, even if they share the same ethics and principles.
The only other female characters in this series have been fleeting and I feel it does females everywhere injustice that this is the only real representative for our gender. The plot, as I mentioned, was as thrilling as ever but I just could not get past this unfair female representation. I am still excited to continue with the series but I can only hope that it does not contain more of the same misogynistic ideologies!
