5 Stars!!! I just spent 3 days being read to by Colin Firth and it was fantastic!!! This is the best narrated audiobook I have ever listened to!!! Now let me say a little about the book itself. I loved it! From the first sentence I was entranced in this complicated love affair. The writing is exquisite! It grabbed my soul and set me on fire!

"This is a record of hate far more than of love." - Maurice Bendrix

"The End of the Affair" is about a writer named Maurice Bendrix. Maurice is a very jealous man. This is quite ironic because he is jealous of Sarah, the married woman he has had an affair with. Sarah ended this affair with Maurice suddenly one day in 1944. Maurice is obsessed with Sarah. He is so obsessed and jealous that he even hires a detective to spy on her. That is all I'm going to say about the book. If I go any further I will get into spoiler territory.

I need to read more classic literature because this book just took my breath away!

Highly recommended to fans of classic literature and/or fans of Colin Firth. To get the full experience listen to the audio version with Mr. Firth's narration!!!

- Just a side note that was brought to my attention. The book does deal with God and Christianity, specifically Catholicism.

Jülie ☼♄  Sounds terrific Jennifer! I love Colin Firth and could probably listen to him all day (he doesn't look too bad either ;) I am adding this to my "look for at the library audio" list...great review! :)

Evan I read this back when I wasn't writing reviews, so I don't have one here. I would like to read it again but I have so many other Greene novels to read. I think so far I've read about 10 of them.

Thomas Stroemquist Wow, great review, Jennifer! Please don't tell anyone, but I still haven't read any Graham Greene(!) I think I need to read more of this kind of literature and soon...

Thank you so much, Julie! I'm probably going to listen to it again sometime. He was so good! I hope someday he narrates other books! :)

Wow 10! This is my first from Greene but I don't read many classics. I think I will now though! :)

Thank you so much, Thomas! I won't tell! Lol! This is my first Greene experience! :)

Jennifer Colin Firth could read the phone book and I'd still listen. Adding right now!

Evan I think Firth would be a nice way to re-engage this, even though audiobooks are too slow for me. I can get a book done four times faster by reading myself. Yes, if you like this I think Greene could be a good way to go. The Quiet American, and The Comedians are my two favorites so far, but I also very much liked The Heart of the Matter, A Burnt-Out Case, and Twenty-One Stories, and, of course, The End of the Affair. I read some others, but these are my faves so far

I'll have to check them out, Evan, thanks! :). I'm a slow reader and I have vision issues so I've been all about the audiobooks since January.

Dana Adding right now...maybe even tonight! Thanks for the review and recommendation!

Lynne Evan, use the Overdrive app and you can adjust the speed. I always use 1.5.

Evan Yes, I've done that before, Lynne. I've done a "mixed use" approach of audiobooks and text in the past -- switching back and forth and speeding up the audio when needed. But I plow through books like a Tasmanian Devil and churn out reviews like a total hack maniac.

Thank you so much, Diane! I know that audiobooks are hard to get used to. I have vision issues so it kind of forced me. It took me a whole month to get through my first one. I had to listen over and over. Now I love them. :)

Glenn Russell Glad you enjoy audio. I certainly do. Some people tell me they simply lack the concentration to listen to an audiobook. From my own experience, similar to yours here, the audio really provides a powerful, unique experience to the written word.

Melanie Great review Jennifer! Love your enthusiasm! I already have the book but maybe this is the one I should listen to on audio (as I haven't tried one yet). I could read along with Colin! I do love Colin :-)) It sounds like Ishould add it to my "read sooner than later" stack!

Thank you so much, Glenn. Yes I completely agree about audio. It does provide a powerful experience to written word. I use to lack the concentration but due to vision problems I have forced myself to develop the discipline to listen. :)
