A Spot of Bother

Disappointing after beautifully sad and engaging "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time". Could not relate to the characters. Too many loose and shallow threads leading nowhere in particular. Or maybe just not my kind of book. Expectations too high because I loved the "Curious Incident"?
A book for lazy summer days, but not for the rest of the year when work, family and social obligations turn every hour in the reading chair into rare golden time.
On the other hand, there are so many books out there that I CRAVE to read, I wonder why I have the compulsion to finish books I do not fully engage in?

I admire people who have bookshelves on GR labelled "Abandoned". I think "Should never have started" is as far as I get at the moment!
Magdalena, as for the "Curious Incident": I read it as a YA novel with young adult discussion partners in mind, and as such it works very well. "A Spot of Bother" has nothing of the YA reflection on what it is like to be different as a teenager, so all you get are the bad storylines and shallow characters. Not very likely I will try anything else by Haddon soon. "Will not try again" might be another label that works.

Teenager/Coming-of-age novels/films are one of my guilty pleasures so if it comes anywhere near The Perks of Being a Wallflower (the film - I haven't read the book yet) or similar stories, I think you've just encouraged me to have a go.
(Still, my to read in 2016 list is already too long...)
