Apparently this is the year of Susanna Kearsley. I've had her books on my TBR pile for years and I finally picked up The Rose Garden as one of my first books of the year. And holy shit � amazing!

This one was my fourth Kearsley this year and again, holy shit. That ending just hit me...hard. The book had been a four up until the very end. It was just perfect.

To express my feelings I need to give away basically the entire book so DO NOT click the below spoilers button unless you want to have the book ruined for you.

(view spoiler)[Obviously the entire book I thought Geoff was Richard, but I also didn't really think they seemed all that similar and it seemed a shame that he didn't remmeber what Julia could. And while I liked Geoff (more so than Richard actually) I wasn't sure how Kearsley was going to reconcile the two at the end, especially since Julia seemed to be more in love with Richard than Geoff.

When I got to the big ending, everything clicked. While I never expected it to be Iain, once I knew that it was, it seemed obvious. Iain was much more like Richard than Geoff ever was. And I could understand how she never noticed it because 1) she was so wrapped up in everything going on in Mariana's life; 2) she was convinced Geoff was Richard because of their appearances and last name, and 3) she was convinced Iain was Evan. Those last two of course being misdirects to make us think exactly that.

The ending just came together like a puzzle, and the disappointment and confusion I was feeling with Julia as we neared the end just disappeared.

For some reason the idea of waiting centuries to be reincarnated and reunited with a lost love breaks my heart. I find the idea of waiting around for so long, alone, unuttterably tragic. So basically this hit me right in the feels. (hide spoiler)]
