New Moon (The Twilight Saga, #2)

oh, hai, just me here, reading new moon on my nook simple touch...
this twilight craze... the books are not as bad as the haters say they are, but they are also nowhere near as good as lovers of this series believe. this installment was just kind of... bland. despite my reading it on the fine e-ink technology of the new nook.
she did one thing right - one wonderful thing. i assume it is too late to actually "spoil" anything in the bellaverse, so i am just going to barrel ahead - but when edward leaves bella in the woods. that moment - when she just loses her mind and her desolation and her emptiness and her self-destructive impulses shoot straight to the surface. it was pretty well-done. because let's face it, we have all been left behind by someone we are still in love with. even me. wonderful, wonderful me.
and having recently rewatched my favorite movie, head-on, i have to point out the best scene in it, and how it mirrors this book. this is a spoiler for head on. which you should all watch. and be gutted. (view spoiler)
that is the kind of heartbreak bella has here and lord, do i get that impulse. and bella keeps it up the whole book - testing the boundaries of her own mortality to get that rush of maybe-edward each time she is close to death. and that's pretty ballsy for teen fiction.
but i don't know how many near-death experiences one girl has to have in order to become interesting. this book was fine, but mostly just one-note. she misses edward and likes but doesn't like-like jacob. for nearly four hundred pages. but my, how slender four hundred pages can be on the new nook!
so - yeah - i am reading on a freaking robot. i was forced to borrow one from work so that i could get on board with the emerging technology. did i do all right, john petrie?? are you proud of my commitment to excellence?? do you see i read a whole book on a machine?? a book that i read for the express purpose of getting to eclipse so i can be a completist in my reading books that are "based" on wuthering heights quest?? and no one looking at me knew what i was reading. the freedom from shame was well worth it...
nook. lightweight. tiny. capacious. good for hiding your books from nosy subway riders. may contain traces of new moon...

Hah, great illustrated review. I love all your expressions.My Kindle (YEAH LET'S FIGHT IT OUT) is in a fancy-ass red leather cover with a reading light I never ever use, so it ALMOST looks kinda like I'm reading an actual book, except I turn no pages and there's a giant flappy leather amazon tag on it. Heh.
I still wonder if ereaders will do for books what iPods did for music/songs....I don't know.
Head-on about drugged-out German-Turkish immigrants, or Head on about drugged-out gay Greek-Australian teenagers?

but you didn't tell us how the nooksperience was. who cares about freaking twilight, how is the touch screen?
i thought i did? it is very fast, and it is ideal for reading one-handed while walking down the street carrying packages to be mailed. if the books were free forever, i would get one.

my nook has an alice in wonderland cover. with words so it is really like a real book.
greg I don't think we have to john didn't mention me borrowing the new one at all, although they want us to spend half an hour with it downstairs.

Agree with your review. I tried to fiddle with the new Nook at B&N yesterday but it seemed slow. I pressed a button (Books) and I just got the whirling loading sign.
my nook was super fast, but i am just not the kind of person who has a good relationship with TEH MACHINES
i am slightly magnetically charged. i am SO glad we don't use floppies anymore.
Much like vampires, when you're back is turned eventually TEH MACHINES will try to kill you so they can be stronger.
if someone would finance my nook-budget, i would probably get one. but left to my own devices, i would just add all kinda shit on there and go broke in a day.

I prefer actual paper, and love to use my bookdarts, but reading on the Nook was not horrible. If only I could download my highlighted bits into a text, or word file.

LOL. If one is expecting horror, not receiving it is pretty cool. Any e-reader is not my first choice, but it is nice to have a Nook as an alternate to toting tomes.

it's true.it's for everything i didn't mind reading. like, i didn't feel it was an imposition.
Are there Nook-like devices that you can type on? Because my workplace has this really dumb policy for us third-shifters where we are not allowed to have our cell phones on us (even though everyone sneaks them around anyway) or laptops while sitting in the otherwise dim silence, monitoring sleeping mentally ill teenage delinquents. And I'm sick of writing by hand for a number of obvious reasons. They allow us to read while there, thank every deity, and e-readers have been approved as acceptable. So I'm only considering buying one for the sake of writing on the job, which is a perfect opportunity to get a lot of writing done.
all three nooks have keyboards on 'em.but only nook color has angry birds
the kindle keyboard blows. i think you'd need to squeak in an ipad on a technicality.
You can save text documents? Is there something like Microsoft Word? What exactly blows about the Kindle keyboard? Too small? How's the nook one, karen?
this book was pretty boring. the only interesting thing was reading it on a device. like someone from the future.
