I'm not sure how much I like this one. I really wanted to love it. I thought I would love it. Unfortunately, it just wasn't as dark/horror filled as I was hoping. Yes, there were a couple of gory moments but they seemed almost clinical. Reading those scenes, I didn't feel the terror or disgust. Admittedly, it could just be that I've become desensitised and so it takes a lot more to get a reaction out of me.
Most of the action takes place in the last third of the book and I think it came a little too late. By that point I was starting to lose interest, what kept me turning the page was that I wanted to see more of Bram. It was curiosity that made me keep reading. Then, when things finally start to get interesting I get slapped in the face by a cliffy. *sigh*
Editing was an issue that continuously pulled me out of the story, so this influenced readability.
Overall, I'd say I liked it; things did get entertaining towards the end. I would have enjoyed it more if it felt darker - which is largely an it's-not-you-it's-me problem. While this didn't leave a huge impression on me I can understand how others would really enjoy it.
Recommended to those that are looking for something with a little horror/shock factor, albeit one that is delayed. For horror veterans, you may still find this an entertaining read just don't expect it to arouse strong emotions.

^_^ Thanks for saying so.
How realistic it was/or wasn't, isn't what bothered me. Reading the blurbs of both books, they are both something I'd pick up straight away. Totally my thing. A lot of what I was expecting was there... but not quite. I'm not very good at articulating myself but it's like I was there to witness the scene but it just wasn't making me react with any sort of emotion.
Totally agree with you.
