Thriller about high school teenagers (mostly the ones on the football team and cheerleaders) who are beginning to act strangely. A fellow student (Mary) guns some down at a party, claiming they are monsters. Her best friend Angela thinks Mary is losing her mind, but later on, she starts to believe her.

This was a very captivating and well written book. But I ended up not liking the main character (Angela) and I found her and her attitude annoying, which spoiled my enjoyment of the story. I also wasn’t happy with a lot of characters I liked getting killed. An okay read by Christopher Pike.

Bobby Underwood Nice review, Sandra. I agree with everything said, but still loved this one more, because I’ve read a lot of Pike and kind of suspected early on this was going to turn out badly. Angela and her attitude was definitely annoying, and it sucked some of the things that happened to the nicer characters, but the story was so well done and so riveting, I had to go higher on it. I'm one of those who generally much prefer a likable protagonist to connect with as well. I don’t care for gruesome either, so that was a big drawback for me, but Pike managed to skirt that line between gratuitous and necessary for me, and because it was a book for teenagers, about teenagers, albeit more worldly teenagers than those in Stine’s work, it only went so far, then let up. Fall Into Darkness, Weekend, Bury Me Deep, Die Softly, Slumber Party, which I think you also read and reviewed, and Gimme a Kiss are some of my favorites from his canon back in the day. They really deserve a reprint after all these years!

Thanks Bobby! I thought I'd rate this book higher because I was really enjoying it until about half way through, then things started to annoy me. But I must admit, I had a hard time putting this book down, I wanted to see what was going to happen.

Joe Krakovsky I can understand your reasons for 3 stars and would probably have voted the same for similar reasons.

Joe, it was enjoyable, but I had some problems with it.
