Hey Emily, I was contemplating reading this.. Why didn't you like it?

The premise sounded interesting and I'm assuming the main character will have any kind of "growth" in the book but I just hated it. There's only so many times I could "hear" her say that she's an "ugly" and she can't wait to get all her surgeries to be a "pretty". All that plus a mix of getting a migraine every single time I try to read this was just too much for me. At this point even if I ended up finishing it I doubt it would get anything over a 3 stars so it's a bit pointless!

You should try leviathan from this author. It has nothing to do with looks and very little romance. It's pretty much a war story between modified animals and machines.

I understand if you don't want to give it another try, but just know that the societal pressure to be pretty is supposed to be problematic. The obsession with being pretty, and being able to have that, is a very intentional political choice to get all these young people into surgery where they change more than just their appearance.
