well, that took an unexpected turn. And, I'm thrilled.
If we were going to have to read a sequel in which Feyre was all skipping through the gardens, planning parties in pretty dresses, and mooning over Tamlin, I would have been supremely disappointed. So, thank you SJM for not subjecting us to that!
Instead, we got darkness, power, and the ability to watch our main character grow-up from a scared, illiterate, starving child who just wanted to be safe, to an immortal fae with more power than most of the other fae put together.
It was really a book of growth.
I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal.
I was a survivor, and I was strong.
I would not be weak, or helpless again. I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.
As for people upset that their "Beast" became a real beast in this book? He actually never changed his character at all. He always wanted to coddle her, insulate her, and rule her. He never gave her any information or allowed her to be a partner. He fed her lies to hope she would break the curse. He banished her to her room for her own safety without telling her why while he had sex with another person. He freaked out whenever she did anything he didn't agree with and had temper tantrums. (suriel) His character was the same in the second book as it was in the first.

He didn't change. She did. And, as it is in real life, when people grow up and find out who they really are, sometimes relationships no longer fit. Feyre was transformed under the mountain. And, although it was a bummer when she was all PTSDing at the beginning of this book, she needed to figure out who she was now. It just so happened that she was a badass. :D
As for Rhysand? Holy hotness, Batman!!
That scene when they were putting on a show at the Night Court? I was clutching my pearls with one hand and fanning myself with the other!

Wow, look at this artwork someone made. It's gorgeous!

I hear ya, teen boy. I hear ya.
I loved the last part of this book the most and the ending killed. I can't believe I am now going to be breathlessly awaiting the next book in a series where the author is currently writing another popular series. I am going to start whining now.

I know, right? I keep my clutching-pearls nearby whenever I read smut or romance. Who knew that I'd need them for a "YA" book? ;)
