The Road is a moving and terrifying post-apocalyptic novel that deserves its notoriety. The two unnamed characters, a father and a son, set out on a nightmarish, nearly impossible journey. It is hard to stop reading once you start. I felt a bit nauseous at times but as always the spare but beautiful, powerful writing of McCarthy is spellbinding. I definitely understand why this book got a Pulitzer. Now, gotta watch the movie!

McCarthy is a fantastically strong and gifted writer about voids as deep as Nietzsche's abyss. The last time a book grabbed me so early by this kind of airless hopelessness was Blindness by Saramago."

So, Sondra, have you started The Road?
So true. Astonishing. I will suggest you read The Fishermen by Chigozie Obioma, about four brothers. The relationship between these brothers, how heartbreaking it was, reminds me of The Road a lot.
Just finished... wow.
I totally disagree. This book was so overrated.
