'C' was our leader, senior year, in high school. We read Julius Caesar in English class that year. 'C' use to yell this at us (me, 'H' and 'L') repeatedly, when we were out in search of adventure, to mock us and to get our attention. - )

I see, in that context it looks to me as a chanting mantra. Did it work?
PS: in high school, first year 9th grade, our literature professor was also our class leader. So, ending first trimester, he thought to award the student that got the highest mark overall. I recall how strolling between the wooden desks he approached my side, took out a paper card and hit me in the head with it, not strong but not soft either. He said that he is proud to recognize that I deserve it and he hopes I'll get even better. In that moment I truly felt and changed myself into a block of stone too. I was furious on his act but later on I realized he wanted to be a Zen teacher. He used a koan to enlighten me. I still have that card...reading it makes my eyes watery. -)

No, It was not violence as violence. He just thought it was 'cool' to proceed with that kind of original signature: instead of embracing me and press some kiss on both cheeks, he wanted to show me that I need to keep my head wide open..by hiting me with the magic of the paper card. Obviously, he couldn't express his feelings out so 'romantically'.
Sometimes stones are more human than humans. -)

I apologize for mis-understanding your story. A strong memory.
I'm glad you still keep the card. - )

Thank you for writing Cleo! - ) I'm sure you'll get back to your reading soon.

Nice to hear from you. I'm not sure I should get credit for a review, I only quote one line, albeit a good one. I do like the cover art though: back from the olden days: a 1963 edition.

The quote is a little over 50 years old, our gang leader use to yell it at us to get our attention; and the cover that I chose to use is over 55 years old. Maybe I'm getting ....

Nice to hear from you.
