Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood

I'm going to start this off by saying I almost didn't get this book just because I don't agree with some of the things he says on his show. Nothing major, but I thought this was going to be something with him trying to push off his political beliefs or personal beliefs. This book helped me see, even more, that it's very important to listen to the people you don't agree with. Because they can open your eyes to certain things in a way no one else has. Now, let's get on with my thoughts on this lovely book.
This book showed me that it's not just the Fantasy genre that can make me devour a book in one sitting. This book is in my top 3 favorites for this year (counting some of the bigger series I've read as one book). From the very start it grabbed my attention and wouldn't let me go. It appealed to so many parts of me. I admittedly didn't know much about apartheid going into this book, so that got me interested. Then, he starts off teaching you interesting things about the different tribes they got split up into during this time. Stories with his mother were some of my favorites. Such an awesome sounding lady! This book is exactly what I was looking for, at that moment. I needed something away from my usual genre and I wanted something that could hold my attention. Teaching me something new is a huge bonus! He's able to educate with facts on what happened during that time without sounding bitter and hateful towards anyone. He throws in some really funny stories to help keep your attention and entertain. He had so many great lessons on life and empathy to learn from this, so many great lessons. He made me feel so many emotions, as well. I can't say enough great things about this book.

Thank you! And for the record, i do agree with quite a few of his opinions, just not all of them 😊 it was such a great book! Heading over to check out your thoughts on it now 😁

Thanks Rob! I definitely have to recommend it as it's a great learning experience. He talks about some powerful things that happened without being hateful and i absolutely loved that. Hopefully you enjoy it if you pick it up!
