“You forged this crown yourself - now wear it. Or don't.
War Storm picks up about a week after the events of King's Cage. The war between Maven and Cal ensues and it takes a while for us to get there. The first 30% of this book is nothing but planning for the war. Little arguments. And more planning. And my goodness the descriptions! They could be a book all on their own. I love descriptions, but it comes to a point where it's too much. And it was.
By chapter 20, things started to pick up, and that's when I became fully engrossed int he story line. I honestly did not care much for Mare and Cal's love troubles. I cared about them more in the previous books.
The things that bothered me in this book:
- The length. It really didn't need to be almost 700 pages.
- Mare. I found her to be annoying. Especially when it came to Cal and her feelings toward him. She can't get mad at him for choosing the crown, when she would have done the same thing and choose her cause over him. But I guess I get it, broken heart and all.
- The lengthy descriptions. There were bouts a description between each dialogue, making the chapters seem to go on forever.
- Iris. Surprisingly, she has a POV in this book, and I get why. But at the same time, I didn't care much for her.
- The lackluster ending. I can't spoil too much. But I was left wanting more. A lot more.
- Anabel. Talk about overbearing.
Things I enjoyed:
- Evangeline. Surprisingly, I enjoyed her chapters so much more than the other POVs. I love her arc in this series. There were some shifts in her personality that really put a foundation for a better person. And plus, she didn't whine as much as Mare.
- Maven. I love a good villain, and I think Maven was one. Constructed by his mother, he was meant to take the crown, no matter what. And it was sad that his mind was messed up from all the whispers his mother left behind.
- Its finally done. The series is over with. Not that I hated this series, but I've read better and I'm just happy Mare & Co. ended up where they did.
Now that I've FINALLY finished reading this monstrosity of a book, I can definitely say, without a doubt, this book, as a series finale, was meh. But I did like the progression of some characters, and I feel like everyone that was evil/bad/shady, met their fate fairly throughout the series.
Was this a bad book? NO
Could it have been better? In my opinion, yes.
I give it 3 stars.
