Well so I did, Jessica! I totally want to say the same to the rest of you.
I loved this book- even the early chapters about Louie's life- I thought it was fascinating. I also became a bit obsessed (because of this book) with aspects of WWII, and with "The Greatest Generation." Warning- the times when Louie is a POW in Japan are really brutal, and sensitive readers like my mom should either skip them or skim them...
I was astounded by the amount of research done by the author. I read the entire appendix and can never imagine taking on a project like this! Really admirable.
I loved Louie- what a great man! As a runner, I loved learning about Louie's amazing running carrer. I loved his brother Pete. I thought hearing about his B-24 Air Corps group was fascinating, and his 47 days on a raft with minimal provisions and 2 other men was incredible! I told everyone about it. It's quite the story. Then his POW days were LONG and dark and unbelievably horrible. I felt anger at the Japanese guards and wanted revenge! Anyway, I won't say anymore about the ending, but - go read it!

Hmmm...not that I know of. Interesting, you are the second person in recent weeks to ask me that here on GR. I'm almost old enough to be your mom, and I haven't been to Utah since 1994, so I don't know where I'd have ever met you.
I deleted your comment on my review, so people know I really mean what I say. I'm just getting back to GR after a few days away, so I've got some catching up to do. When I get some time, I'll pm you about the other comments. :-)
