Ok, so this was not very big on the mystery stuff.
It was more of the story of the incredibly lovable Motswana detective, Mma Ramotswe. And as she solves cases in her town, you get a peek at the beauty and culture of Botswana. Honesty, the country itself is almost a character in this book.

This is truly a slow-moving story about her life, the lives of the people around her, and a loving look at the country she adores. And in between that, there are mysteries that get solved. Some are big, some are little, but all of them are cozy.
Like her bush tea.

This is obviously a much-loved series, so I don't know what I can really add to that.
Even now, I can't tell you why I grabbed the next book, other than I wanted something easy to listen to that would relax me. I mean, the mysteries aren't exciting and it seems like she's not even all that good at it sometimes. But, there you go.
The books just had that whateveritis that made me want to read just a little bit more.
Oh, and that ending. (view spoiler)

And that was just the perfect way to close the book.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Just the one season, unfortunately. But they filmed on location in Botswana and my wife and I enjoyed it a lot.

Yep. She had to be flown down to South Africa for emergency treatment, then when she returned after 6 months or so (to great fanfare from the university) I was assured by the department that she was fully recovered and ready to "kick ass again." So I sent her an e-mail saying how glad I was that she was okay and asking when she'd feel up to working together on my (half-finished) dissertation again. Her return e-mail was very formal, said she was looking forward to meeting me for the first time, and that she loved helping new doctoral students get started.
Again, we'd known each other for FIVE years, and she'd been advising me for three of them.
I wrote to the head of the department in a panic; the head was clearly pretty skeptical, so i forwarded the e-mail to her and encouraged her to ask my advisor about me. I heard nothing for a week, after which the head immediately apologized for doubting me and took my advisor's place herself, even going so far as to get another prof. to sub-advise since the head specialized in Ancient Sumerian texts and I specialized in Ancient/Late Antique Mediterranean stuff (rest assured, that's a HUGE difference) and she couldn't understand 2/3 of what I was talking about.
All told, I left with a VERY good impression of the department head. XD

When I need help with Antique Mediterranean stuff, you, my friend, are going to be my first phone call.

I'm now unwilling to go to Botswana. But I do wonder if my poor opinion of the book came from that...
Ha ha ha, happy to help in theory!

Oh, I'm not laughing. One of my primary areas of expertise is ancient Mediterranean magic; I literally learned ancient summoning rituals and curses. We're set!
