solid 3.5 stars. Good book.

Characters remained consistent. It wasn't bloody. No crazy intense page turning moments. I didn't experience any moments of ".......what will happen. " The ending was inevitable from the beginning.

Kinda what I expected but I don't know that I feel as resolved as I would like to feel. Think hunger games ending with way less death and no HEA epilogue.

It feels a bit open-ended for another book...maybe in a few years like do many authors have done as of late.

Cal, Mare, Maven: One does die.

SCROLL TO BOTTOM TO FIND OUT WHO DIED.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
With the new year I began thinking about all the books coming out, this final book being 1, and I had a realization...

Mare has NEVER been a love sick puppy in this series, not for either of the boys. She cared about them more then they genuinely cared for her, and yes Cal did break her heart but only because she loved and cared so much more then he did. The emotions she felt romantically or friendship wise never altered her course for her cause. It is because of this I have a really hard time seeing either boy as end game, especially Cal.

Again Cal and Maven in true form have been constant in their feelings for Mare. Maven obsessive, Cal is hot and cold- come on you really thing she should stick with the guy who is like that... I think Kate Perry has a song about that bull Crap.

**Mare is more then these boys; For the first time ever, Despite being a hopeless, obesseive romantic sap, I am actually rooting for Mare ALONE. **

Cal wasn't for her cause in the first 3 books. In the first book he messes with her by seeking her out here and there but staying his course. Book 2 he utilizes his skills but only because he believes he can't be king and won't hurt his Silvers. Book 3 he actually picks his crown, which is his heart and his Love. There would need to be a major event that totally alters his established character that hasn't wavered, not even once, with Mare vs. Crown in the span of the first 3 books.

Looking forward to this book and Maas this year!

-------------------------------------------------------------
Just read the Blurb for the book....

..... I still HATE CAL.

Also, Maven's OBSESSION and Cal's inability to actually love Mare is getting old. The past 3 books, neither Bro. has changed. Cal has his brain and he's a prick. Maven is nuts, but he Can't help it... who do I want to live?

This is the first book I've read that I would be open to either Labotomized Maven or partially Castrated Cal.

------------------------------------------------------

RIP MAVEN.

The odd thing is that Mare believes she has killed him, but she passed out...and they can't find his dead body, if I remember correctly. I know Aveyard said this is the last book, but she left herself an out. Truthfully, I hope she keeps going cause it could be a whole lot of drama.

Sam I'm seriously DONE with authors killing off my people. I can't take anymore. I hope you wrong but I'm scared you right. Pray for happiness!!!!

Rainy Day Reads I probably am wrong, there have been a few surprises already. I just don't know how Cal comes back from a jerk move like that.

It's funny, I've heard many people say that it was just as much a betrayal on Mares part that she left instead of staying with Cal.

Rainy Day Reads I would agree, except he is staying with the intent of marrying another woman. This leaves Mare to be "the woman on the side," the "other woman." Cal's group wanted to keep the silverbloods in power. By staying with Cal, she would be accepting a future in which her citizenship, her non-silver blood, kept her as a slave and second rate citizen. Children she had with Cal would be bastards. She would be accepting a life where nothing had changed. She would be ignoring the mission she had in her life, to bring about equality for all. Because Cal's royal group would not allow it, equality, she had to go.

At least that is what I understood from it.
