Super unpopular opinion coming at you, but I didn't like this book. At all. Possibly one of my least favorites of the year which explains why it took me six months to read.

I can appreciate what an important this book this book is, especially given the time it was written in and how the thematic elements are still really important. But that alone is not enough for me to enjoy this.

My three biggest problems were the world building, the writing, and the ending.

My issue with the world building is that I spent over half of the book with a laundry list of questions, some of which were only answered 75% of the way through and some never were answered. Perhaps the answered were provided but I missed them because of how much I abhorred the writing. Seriously, this is a combination of my personal least favorite style of writing. Two elements that immediately make me dislike the writing are an overuse of commas and a lack of quotation marks. I honestly don't know why the quotation marks thing bothers me so much but it does. Its such an unnecessary and dumb element. Like what reason do you actually have not to use quotation marks? None, there is no reason not to use them other than to be unique. I hate that. But the overuse of commas is an even greater offense because its exhausting. My brain feels like it never has time for a break because a sentence that should have ended four times is still going on. I'm also just really bitter about the way the book ended with "The History of the Handmaid's Tale." That was actually the worst. I was incredibly tempted to skip it because a) I don't feel like it added anything new to the story and b) it was just boring.

Anyway, I ended up really disliking this book which is such a bummer since I thought I was gonna love it. I appreciate what it did for feminist literature and the dystopian genre but personally, it just didn't agree with me.

The story and futuristic world is interesting, but at almost 200 pages in, I don't feel like I've been given nearly the amount of information I desire. Also, this is my least favorite type of writing style. I plan to push through and finish it, but I have to admit that I'm so disappointed"

Kaylin (The Re-Read Queen) Really interested to see your thoughts on this, as I've felt like the only one who didn't care for it!
