I've never read this great classic. One of my book groups is reading it and I looked on my shelves to see if I had a copy: Yes! An ancient, yellow-paged paperback, and I also have a copy of Du Maurier's _Jamaica Inn_. Cool beans. It's good so far, not stilted like the dreaded Jane Austen novels.

What a fantastic story this is. I found it so curious that the main character - who is not Rebecca - was never named except to be referred to as "Mrs. de Winter"! I was irritated often by the fact that she was so mealy-mouthed and never stood up for herself, and yet I must admit her personality worked for the tale to play out as it did. The ending was exciting!

Oh, cool about the apartment house called Manderley. The first line of the book is so iconic that it is repeated by folks who haven't even read the book. Mum is urging me to read _My Cousin Rachel_ next, telling me it's even better. I will get it soon - probably from the library since the cost is still nearly $10 US, even in e-book version - but I have a copy of _Jamaica Inn_, so will probably read it first. That reminds me, have you ever read _A High Wind in Jamaica_?
Happy belated Easter. He arose for you and me!!
In passing: there was an apartment house in my college town called Manderley.
