THIS BOOK WAS A PERFECT ENDING 4 THE SERIES. SPOILER ALERT.
I AM SO HAPPY THAT CALLA AND SHAY ARE FINALLY TOGETHER. WHEN CALLA BROUGHT BACK REN, SHAY WAS NOT HAPPY THEY GOT INTO IT RIGHT AWAY AND TOLD CALLA TO CHOOSE WHICH ONE SHE WAS GOING TO BE WITH , BUT SHE TOLD THEM THAT SHE WAS NOT GOING TO CHOOSE OR BE WITH EITHER OF THEM UNTIL AFTER THE WAR WAS OVER BC SHE NEEDED BOTH OF THEM. THEY AGREED BUT THOUGH OUT THE WHOLE BOOK CALLA ALWAYS LEANED ON SHAY AND EVEN SLEPT WITH HIM AGAIN,BEFORE THE FINALE BATTLE SHAY AND CALLA WERE TOGETHER AND SHAY TOLD CALLA HE THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO DIE AND THAT HE WANTED HER TO BE HAPPY AND IF THAT MEANT BEING WITH REN HE WANTED HER DO DO THAT. SHE THOUGHT THAT HE WAS GIVING UP AND PUSHING HER AWAY,THEN SLAPPED HIM. SHAY TOLD CALLA HE KNOWS THAT SHE LOVES REN AND REN LOVES HER.

It took me a moment to catch my breath. I threaded my fingers through his, finally understanding what shay was trying to to. He was giving me a choice. He was setting me free. "You're right I love him."
He sighed, but I tightened my grip on his hand.
But not the way I love you," I said.
I leaned forward, pressing my lips against his, waiting until he responded to the kiss. He pulled me closer, the soft kiss building in heat and strength as it lingered between us.
" it doesn't matter that ren and I have a past," I whispered against his month. " You're my future. You're the path a choose from the moment I saved you on the mountain.
"And I can't afford yo lose my alpha," I said His smile remained, but light flared in his eyes. "You mean me?"
"You know i do. You've always known who you are to me-- to the pack. Even before I did. You were a lone wolf. Then you found us."
"I didn't know who i was or where i belonged until I met you," he said, leaning down to brush his lips across my cheek."
"So alpha ..." I took his hand. "You ready to go get the bad guys?"
"If you insist," he said placing one last kiss on my lips.
LATER THEY WENT BACK TO THE KITCHEN WITH EVERYBODY ELSE AND REN CAME AND SAW THAT THEY WERE HOLDING HANDS GOT BAD AND WANTED TO START A FIGHT WITH SHAY AND DEMANDING IF SHE CHOOSE HIM, CALLA TOLD REN NOT NOW OR SHE WILL KICK HIS ASS.
LATER IN THE BATTLE REN GETS KILLED, I AM GLAD THAT SHE TOLD SHAY SHE CHOOSE HIM BEFORE REN DIED OTHER HE MIGHT THINK THE ONLY REASON SHE WAS WITH HIM WAS BC REN IS DEAD. ALSO GLAD HE DIED BC IF HE DIDN'T AND AFTER THE BATTLE WAS OVER AND TOLD HIM SHE CHOOSE SHAY HE WOULDN'T LET HER GO AND TRY TO KILL SHAY.

Ive just seen this post and totally agree with it! It confused me too. Ren was such a prick in nightshade! He was possesive and selfish, and Calla really didnt want to end up with him. I think she will end up with Shay (hopefully) I prefer his charactor to Ren's. Although I have warmed up to him. I think the author is just trying to keep us guessing! Fingers crossed for Shay!
In all fairness the girl was in high-school and as such, anyone would dread having to be married then. It was not Ren in particular, she could practically keep her hands to herself on that one, but the circumstance. Shay simply symbolizes freedom from the norm and regardless of how she really feels, Calla craved the ability to decide her own fate.
Well, people can love more than one at once. Additionally, it was ENSLAVEMENT and being forced to do things that Calla hated. She was forced to stay away from Ren, with the 'purity' bs, and she hated that. She hated the Union itself. She was terrified and intrigued by it all. Shay was always simple. He simplified her life, bc instead of dominance and complications he was humanity and love. That being said, I would be perfectly happy if Calla chose neither. Shay kept pressuring her to have sex, all the while he knew her family was being tortured. I felt it was fairly out of character for him to be like that but whatever not my book. ALSO, the day she was sexually assaulted was the day he decided to have sex with her. I have problems with that. Is Ren excused for sexually assaulting her? Absolutely not. But he wasn't doing it for personal dominance or pleasure or his own desires, but because he was tortured and told that breaking Calla and dominating her would save the lives of literally every person he loved. Including Calla. Including himself. It was either dominate her, and keep in mind he is half wolf, and save her and save his family and himself, or he believed he was helpless to have them all suffer death by torture. Does this excuse him attacking Calla? No. No. But people do awful things sometimes, and I believe he can make amends and his choices were understandable.
I wish Shay was a more complicated character, as he is rather flat for me. Even after his own novella, he just comes across as a deux ex machina character.
I agree completely with Judith and Andrea. It wasn't so much that she didn't want to marry Ren, but more that she hated the life that she was being forced into. She hated the fact that she didn't get a choice in who she would be with in her future and Shay represented a choice a freedom from the life that was forced upon her. I am personally Team Ren though. I dislike Shay.

I hated Ren too. He was always trying to sleep with her even before they were united. All he wanted was to have her be another one of his numbers. Shay was never like that. She practically came to him.
In the book it doesn’t show ren and calla were ever close their packs hated each other, they never really hung out with bc of their packs. But calla and shay spent so much time together he understands her wanting to be free from her pack, he helps her become who she truly is. But I still think in the end she will chose Shay ( I am crossing my fingers).
