Aaron Blair-McCutchen Don't do it!

Jenn Is it that bad?

Aaron Blair-McCutchen It's not the worst book I ever read, but it falls pretty squarely into the genre of fiction about minorities, written by people who are not the minorities, in which there is a protagonist not-minority who sets out to assist the minorities in some capacity, because, clearly, they are not capable of assisting themselves. It's that old, tired story of how black people work for white people not because the legacy of slavery and the reality of segregation left them without a lot of options, but because they love the white people they work for, as long as the white people are halfway decent. And a white person being even halfway decent is this awesome, magnanimous creature worthy of praise. Whatever to that, I say. Anyway, there's an entire blog dedicated to calling bullshit on this book.

Sarah Bates I loved that book! Much better than the movie, too.
