January 2018 Read #1: This was just....wow. The Cruel Prince was so refreshing to me as an avid YA fantasy reader. I want to say it was kind of dare I say?perfect?

Let me hit on some of my main positives:
-No typical ya tropes
-Female MC didn’t have to act like a boy or pretend to be a boy in order to be perceived as “better��, “stronger��, or in order to gain respect
-Twisty crazy plot that had me constantly guessing and jaw dropping like, whoa, I did NOT see that coming
-No instalove, no love triangles
-No boy-pining
-Not a romance driven plot (surprisingly! And surprisingly I enjoyed that as I usually prefer romance driven plots....)

I’ve struggled with Holly Black in the past but I just had this feeling that The Cruel Prince would be her redemption for me and I am so glad that I was right.

I do have some negatives, just personal preferences:
-I felt that this would’ve been really great in 3rd person
-The title seems a bit misleading....not to delve into spoilers but I guess I just wanted more of this Cruel Prince character so perhaps here is where I would’ve enjoyed third person but I’m thinking this has to do with Black’s lovely plot twists, she keeps us guessing in this one for sure
-This just did not go, at all, whatsoever, where I thought it was going.....honestly that it what’s so freaking awesome, not a negative haha
-And lastly, pleeeeease tell me I don’t have wait an entire year for the next book!!!!
