Char I thought this was shocking and excellent, all at once.

Thanks Char!

Angela I was quick enough to grab this ARC off the back employee table before every one else. Meant to be.

Well done Angela - early-bird and all that
:O)

Eleanor One of those stories that would seem too far-fetched if used as a plot for fiction. Very grim indeed.

Bettie hmm - this is the 3rd or 4th occasion where the violence has been remarked upon and at present, given these very trying times, wonder if I could cope.

Char Bettie, not violence so much as plain inhumanity. As Eleanor said, and I think I said in my review, if this was a fictional story I would've said that that the author went too far and that it wasn't realistic.

And by too far, I am not referring to the acts of violence, (of which there are many, but they are only briefly touched upon, really), but to the a) the lack of concern anyone showed about missing or dead Osage tribe members, b) the laws set into place which made murder become so profitable for some, and lastly, c) the outright audacity of some of these people in their actions,
I was also very surprised not to have heard anything about this before. It's a SHAMEFUL incident in American history, and I think we, especially Americans, owe it to the Osage to learn about it, honestly.

Bettie Thanks for the clarification, Charlene. I am finding so much distress with human callousness everywhere at the moment so it will be a while, and a fair few changes of state leaders before I tackle this.

Bettie eta - It is ah but a couple of months since the last dreadful treatment of native Americans re the pipeline.

I understand completely. And yes, re: the pipeline too.
It's obvious now that some people have no idea of our history, and are therefore doomed to repeat it.
