really liked it

this ended up being a real page turner. a modern retelling of Hamlet, I thought I knew what would happen...but it remained a fresh story the whole way through. and i always appreciate a mature young man as narrator. it's a little higher than a 4 for me.

JoAnn/QuAppelle Kirk I wanted to love this book, but after 54 pages of mostly nothing but description, I had to put it aside. Boo Hoo

melanie (lit*chick) i have a soft spot for young male characters...i think one of the main reasons i like it. and i enjoy the slow pacing esp if i've been reading a lot of light stuff.

Janet I went to a reading by Leif Enger for his new book but it was a twofer with Lin, his brother sort of riding his coat tails and doing a reading from this book. Frankly, his reading didn't light me up but I felt bad just standing in line to have Leif sign his book so I bought his as well. At the time I kept thinking to myself how difficult it would be to get out of the shadow of a brother like Leif (Peace Like a River). At any rate, I finally picked up this book and finished it in a day - it really was a page turner for me. I thought the characters were well developed (with the possible exception of Jesse's mother)and the pacing kind of stalked you like a cold Minnesota winter. I look forward to reading more from this promising author.
