Let's do a little pre-reviewing.

If there is one thing that irritates me about this books blurb it's this sentence:
"There’s saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay’s wrath."
What?! Are we still on this tip Cremer? WTF? Shay's wrath? This is the issue I have with this series. Cremer can run around screaming "girl power!" all she wants, but I'll tell you what's really going on here. Boarderline domestic abuse disguised as love in sheep's clothing. Shay is an awful character and I'm sorry if his immature sensibilities will be hurt when Calls attempts to save Ren's life. He would rather see Ren dead than the possibility of Calla choosing Ren over him. What a controling little prick. And all Calla does is submit. *eyeroll*

Oh and BTW, I hate the cover.

kinda surprised you're still going 'to read' this one

Sandy Thank you, Stephanie, for all your comments showing what's wrong with this series. I want Calla to FINALLY act like an alpha and quit being such a pushover for these boys. If Calla wakes up and chooses NEITHER of these boys, then I think I'll feel like this series has been redeemed.

Shay's always been bland and immature, but Ren can be just as pushy. His character was verging on the stereotypical, romanticized forceful lover in Nightshade (although I think Cremer took it too far in Wolfsbane in that one scene because even though Ren was pushy in Nightshade, I didn't get the vibe that his character was THAT pushy).

I love girl power, but this series is not it.

Kate, I can't believe it either, but since I've read the other two, I feel like I might as well attempt to read the last one.

I know! Let her choose neither boy! Ya right. Like that will happen.
I can't even think about Shay without seeing red. He disgusted me.

Judith (Judith'sChoiceReads) Shay is for real a prick, I mean Seamus? Man, 'nough said.

TheLoupGaroux Yes. This. Is what Ren did ok? Fuck no. It was sexual assault. BUT, can we see why he may have done this? Yes. He was abused his whole life, grew up surrounded by fear, taught that dominating women was not only his right but his PURPOSE. He is tortured by Wraiths, which is still something I'm kind of fuzzy on but whatever. And he is told that it is hus job to 'break' her. If he does this, his pack will live. His family will live. He will live. Calla will live. Does this excuse the assault? NO. Was is wrong? Yes. But when Shay had sex with her that same day? I didn't see that as a caring partner. I saw that as Shay always out to get his needs met.
Calla is supposed to be about 'girl power', but she actually never leads the pack. I don't understand. I LOVE werewolves, and every other wolfy book I've read has the Alpha being the leader, the protector. Perfect? No, but able to navigate and make decisions. Cremer said we would explore what an 'aplha' really is in the next book. Hopefully that clarifies things. honestly, I'd be happy with Calla leading her pack alone for ten years before meeting a nice Alpha man that needs an Alpha female and then merging packs. lol.

Katie Yes, yes, and yes. There is nothing more to say. hah

Annette "Boarderline domestic abuse disguised as love in sheep's clothing" - that's exactly how I felt. I found Shay extremely repulsive, especially in Wolsfbane. He was way more tolerable in Bloodrose (but I still preferred Ren as a love interest by miles).

Megan I do agree with how it's ridiculous Calla always submits to Shay, but I actually like the story plot of this book and I think the cover is terrific. It was better then the first two books if you ask me..
But this is all just my opinion on the subject lol

That's good that things got better in this book. I actually liked Nightshade, but was extremely disappointed with Wolfsbane. I probably won't read this one because I kinda lost interest. I read a spoiler of the ending, which pretty much confirmed I wouldn't enjoy this one. It's probably best for all parties if I don't read it! Lol.

TheLoupGaroux OH, yes. I feel like Cremer had enough plot for two books, not a trilogy, and Wolfsbane was mainly filler. IT could have been attached to Bloodrose with 75% of the shitty dialogue cut out that is haha.

message 13: by Steph (new) - added it

Steph Sinclair Yes! Wolfsbane was such a filler book. It was one huge info-dump!

Megan Yeah Wolfsbane was kind of like a dictionary for me. I got nothing but information on Keepers, Searchers and Guardians. I could of done without it and just had Bloodrose instead right after Nightshade you know? And I could of done without Shay and Calla with all her submitting to him. But things don't go how we want them, so I was still satisfied with what I got. Just disappointed on certain things, like Ren passing away. That really pissed/upset me...

TheLoupGaroux The entire "war" was like 45 minutes. Seriously? Seriously? All of these creatures were supposed to be hardened, trained warriors. I saw no evidence of this. Why didn't the Searchers ever use explosives, honestly? The Guardians are literally just wolves. Super healing, yes, but. .. lol. And Shay was this "Scion" and killed like three wraiths in total. Woop dee doo.

Steph Sinclair Megan and TheLoupGaroux, you guys have pretty much summed up why I won't be reading it. It doesn't sound like it would interest me at all.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Everyone is hating this so far! So I broke down and read the spoilers. They are almost funny. Needless to say, I wont be reading this anymore.

OMG! YES! Someone finally noticed that flaw in the story. Like seriously, don't get me wrong I love Andrea Cremer and how amazing her work is, but she made a big deal on how the Scion is suppose to be this big, bad, scarey hero towards the Keepers who want to kill him. And all we got was nothing but information, Shay being a jackass, Calla always submitting to him and the fighting only lasting for a few minutes when it should of been much more, but she made it seem like they were wimps if you ask me.

TheLoupGaroux YUP. There is nothing wrong with an honest, well thought out critique of a novel and its components. So don't read my responses and think I am simply ignorantly bashing the novel, I'm not ;P But this is supposed to be the climax of a centuries long war. . . but I can name five protagonists from other novels that would have been able to do this single handedly. All they had to do was show up at the caves, etc, and take the sword pieces. WHERE were all the other Guardians!? Hundreds, presumably, but we only saw around 15 in total guarding these sites. Cremer must has assumed we had forgotten Guardians, since she obviously prefers her witches (they pretty much all make it out all right as you can see) but some of us read the series for the Wolves and the Guardians and when you sell us a series that says that Guardians are seasoned fighters whose sole purpose is to protect the sites. . . and a bunch of high school kids outsmart them? Outfight them? (INSANE LAUGHING HERE)
