Amber yay Nomes!! I hear Cricket is quite something ;) enjoy!

Saskia You have Lola?!? HOW EXCITING!!
I hope you love it! :D

Nomes I have Lola <3

I am about 100 pages in (and have to stop now until kids are in bed tonight). I am liking it so far (not yet loving it ;)

Amber Oh keep me posted! I've been hearing greatness on it.

~Tina~ CRICKET!! <3 Happy reading!

Aly (Fantasy4eva) I have yet to read the first! *mourns*

Nomes thanks guys.

[pauses ...]

i didn't love it :/

feeling a little out of the loop on this one (after reading so many awesome reviews)

i liked some parts but it never went above a 3 star read for me (at parts, it felt just "okay". overall finished with a general felling of 'cute but meh')

[i feel awkward about not getting into this :/ ]

message 8: by Nic (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nic Oh no :( I sorry you didn't love it. Did you like Cricket and Lola?

~Tina~ Aww sorry this didn't work for ya Nomes:(

message 10: by cara (new) - rated it 5 stars

cara Don't feel awkward! Some books just aren't for everyone. I felt really awkward about not loving The Girl of Fire & Thorns until I found some other people who also had the same issues with it. I'm sure there are people who disliked it. {Still hoping I'm knocked off my feet though, as I love Anna dearly.}

Nomes Thanks guys. I am baffled.

I was into it initially, but as it progressed somehow became more disinterested and by the end, i was rather disengaged, even bored.

weird, as the end chapters is what you are hanging out for, but by the time i got there, i just felt nothing. even had that 'tempted to skim read" thing going on in the last chapter (!)

message 12: by Nomes (last edited Aug 18, 2011 06:53PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Nomes oh thanks cara :) [also, i sent you an email! a scribbly rushed one ;) but still with <3 ]

i loved anna as well. was so into it ~ even re-read it nearly straight away.

i think i am the exception here (going by all the other reviews). i am sure you will love it (but i can't wait to hear what you think)

i think i feel doubly bad as i was SO certain i would love and devour it so i feel at a loss :/

Just emailed back :)

Arlene Oh no! I'm sorry too. Were you going to give it a star rating or is it 0 stars? No reason to feel at a loss. There are books we connect with and others we don't.

Nomes oh, arlene. i am a bit a loss. in a little funk about not being able to get into it :/ It's not a zero rating, LOL. I *think* it will be a 3 star rating. although, in all honesty, at the end i felt "it was okay" which means a 2 would match more. but it's not really a 2 star book...

@ Sandy ~ read it last night. I thought of you! (and even scrolled through here to see what you rated it ~ now that we are GR friends ;) ~ but you are invisible about it ;) )

I still will read Isla, for sure.

Flannery Nomes--I can totally see that. I thought it was rather predictable, that Lola's style was basically the thinly veiled style of the author, and I didn't like the description of what Cricket was always wearing. (why was he always wearing short pants?) I think it was mostly a 3 starrer for me but the Booker comments in it made me enjoy it a bit more. I'm super interested to hear what you thought...

Nomes thanks Flann. my fave bit was reading Nic's comments and writing my own (so much fun)

I did not grin, or swoon. and was often irked at some of the strategies the author employed to keep tension in the plot. Events and characters behaviour did not feel organic (from characters) but very orchestrated (from the author).

will review by the end of the weekend. a little unsure what to say really. don't want to rant or seem jaded :/

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I find myself more intrigued to read a book when the reviews are a bit mixed instead of ALL 5 stars. It takes bravery to give a book all your friends love a lesser rating.

Nomes ahh, i know what you mean kate. i like seeing a book from all angles.

it is a bit startling to see how loved this has been so far. i wonder if giving out 5 stars is infectious? Seems everyone had such a completely different reading experience with this book than me.

also, i LIKE contemp YA best, especially with a strong romance. so i thought i was guaranteed to love this :/

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Books are so funny like that, huh? Sometimes I feel like more often the ones I pick up that I have the most guaranteed feeling I will love let me down. Or how it will do nothing for me and I can know that if I had just read it 2 weeks ago I would have loved it.

I'm not too crazy about contemp YA myself, so Anna was a really nice surprise for me.

Chachic Nomes, I'm becoming less excited for this book because of what your reaction and Flannery's review. Have you seen this review: I have a feeling I'd have a similar reaction to the book.

Ah well, I'm still going to read it because I've already pre-ordered a copy and I'd like to see the book side by side with Anna on my bookshelf. :P I guess it's good that I'm more cautious about it, I don't have to go crazy while waiting for the book to be delivered.

message 22: by Jade (new) - added it

Jade Oh. I'm so bummed you didn't like it since we often have similar tastes and I soooo adored LOLA. I guess you can't love them all.

Emily Oh no ... Anna was only a 3 star read for me (which i am hesitant to say with all the worshipers of the book) so i doubt this will a favourite for me. Looking forward to your full review, if you write one. :)

Jessica Ah crap :( Sorry you didn't care for it, Nomes.

Nomes ahh, thanks guys. it wasn't bad. i am just indifferent :/

i will write a review (sometime over the weekend ;)

Leanna Elle Aw, too bad this didn't work out of you. I loved ANNA too, so I have really high expectations for this one, although I'm trying not to build them up too much in case its a letdown. This happens to me all too often!

Crystal Aw I am sorry you didn't care for it, but no worries we all have different opinions =) On to the next book!

message 28: by Miss Me. (new) - added it

Miss Me. A... that's sort of disappointing. I sort of liked Anna and the French Kiss. Perhaps I better read the first couple of chapters in the store before I buy it?

Nomes @ Mandi~ you will pro want to read it for yourself. I actually like the way SP writes, I just didn't care much for the actual story/characters for some reason :/

you can read the first chapter online:

:D

message 30: by K (new) - rated it 5 stars

K Hi Nomes! Are you swapping this?

message 31: by Nomes (last edited Aug 21, 2011 03:56AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Nomes hey kate ~

i actually borrowed a friends ARC ~

if i do end up with a copy i won't be keeping it ~ so i'll add it to my swap shelf if that happens :D

Choco I'd love to do swaps with Lola, but I'm not sure if you'll see anything you'll like in my 'aussie swap' shelf. Let me know though!

Nomes nothing really there choco :/ sorry

x Nomes

Melannie :) *highfive?*
I didn't really liked this one either, it was not bad but it didn't sweep me off my feet like I thought it would ):
