Okay, so it has been a few months since I read this book and now I know better than before that it didn't reach up to my expectations. I think that I was so happy to finally get this book that I didn't really care if it was good or not and I just reviews it to 5 stars (now I changed it to 3.5 stars).
The book was devoid of feelings. It was hollow. You know that feeling that good books leave after you are done with them- that feeling that lingers for months, I am afraid this book lacked the ability to do that. The ending was the worst one I have read in quite a while.
I don't understand why Victoria Aveyard makes a villain the worst possible creature you can imagine and then all of a sudden in the next book the person doesn't seem that bad. Take Amarantha for instance, she was (I think) more difficult to kill then Hybern and yet in the next books she was made as if she was merciful.
I don't think anybody will get this, since I am not getting this myself but this was a huge disappointment for me.

I was always Team Cal, but still the ending bothered me.

The whole plot was amazing, especially the twist of the Reds leaving.
But I think this series needed one more book to reach the right conclusion.
I mean the ending doesn't just seem like the right ending- it's more like a beginning.
“But there's always something left to be broken.��

Evangaline became a favorite, too (I guess).

Okay, Cal was really noble. Maybe selfish in some ways “You forged this crown yourself - now wear it. Or don't.�� but really selfless in others.

Mare was a confusing character overall.
Her heart torn between two princes, she had to go through a point when she wouldn't even look at either of them. Then where the princes would sacrifice anything for getting power, she would do anything to remove it.
However, both Calore brothers having to marry off for the sake of building an alliance kinda sucked.

Maven was such an issue in the previous books and his downfall was because of such an expected betrayal. pheww

Anyways, the first 400 pages were kinda boring, then the book got good better.
Anyways I think I will reread this series because there was a huge gap between this book and the previous ones that I didn't remember many characters.

Anways, I am so happy I read this series.
Even if my heart will never be contended with the ending.
