re-read,re-read details. Coming to BBC7 next week! Not my favourite D but any D is better than none.
-----------
re-read May 2008:
Prince Lev Nikolayevich Myshkin returns to Russia after a long absence. Myshkin suffers from epilepsy 鈥 just like Fyodor Dostoevsky himself 鈥 and is prone to blackouts and periods of apparent insanity. At Nastasya's name-day party, Myshkin sees Rogozhin arrive drunk and offer the young woman a large amount of money to follow him. The prince perceives the despair of Nastasya and proposes to her in order to save her from her situation. She, believing the prince's offer stems only from pity, flees with Rogozhin
The Idiot is my least favorite Dosteovesky book but that said, I still enjoy this story for it's portrayal of human nature over the full spectrum of possible behaviours. It is good to remember that the author suffered from epilepsy.

ooo - hard question isn't it; a lot depends on the reader's level of insecurities at the time of encountering.
Crime and Punishment is perfectly executed
Brothers K must have had divine aid to show such familial spite yet display a road to redemption
Notes from Underground is the most horrific example of a paranoiac
:O)
