it was amazing

** spoiler alert ** If I could give this book 10 stars I totally would. I absolutely loved, loved, loved it. I stayed up until 3 AM to finish ~ it was so good I couldn't put it down. Then when I finished reading, I was crying. JK Rowling created such a courageous hero in Harry Potter & with the help of his steadfast friends (the most steadfast friends a person could ever hope for), he triumphed over evil & set the wizarding world to rights. How could any series be better written??? I'm still feeling so emotional over the ending 16 hours later.

So many questions answered in this book ~ the biggest ones for me were all around Snape. He seemed so easy to hate & I was constantly distrustful of him & questioning where his loyalties really lie. When the very complicated truth was finally revealed, it was the most beautiful twist I could ever imagine.

I cried over the loss of Dobby. Another character I originally didn't like but really did a 180 about. He was so brave & loyal ~ giving his life for Harry. Along with Kreacher, the house elves really came thru for Harry.

When I read the very first book, I think I described it something like "reading Harry Potter was like learning a foreign language." It never stopped being that way for me all the way to the end. Horcruxes, deluminators, etc. Every book, new introductions to new apparatus, creatures & words. It's an unparalleled world that Harry Potter lives in and I am feeling sappily grateful that I finally discovered it and became transported by it like so many other people before me.

Hopefully I'll be able to write more after I digest that very climactic ending for a bit longer.

p.s. I thought, when I saw the final chapter ~ nineteen years later ~ that Harry was going to be Headmaster at Hogwarts for some reason?? It was very endearing tho that they had all married, had children & were still together, creating future generations of wizards.

Whitney Collins I am so happy to see this review! This book, I think more so than any other I've ever read, this made my cry because it felt like I was saying goodbye to my old friends. J. K. Rowling is so incredible with the world and characters she created. I think these books are timeless and not just for children. I'm glad Snape somewhat redeemed himself in your eyes too! What a complex, flawed character, but his love for Lilly was so beautiful! If you haven't yet, definitely check out the illustrated versions. Only the first 3 have come out, but they're beautiful.

Kathleen I bet it felt like goodbye. I would be even more "bonded" with everyone in the series if I'd grown up with them. It's part of your childhood/youth! I wonder if JK would ever write another series based on a new generation of Potters & Weasleys ~ that could be good!! Yes, I came around on Snape but not until the end. I love how he loved Lily ~ I so get it now. I really hated him at the end of the 'Half Blood Prince' so it was strange to be sad when he died. What a tightrope he walked between good & evil. I've read the end of 'Deathly Hallows' three times now. I love the exchange between Dumbledore & Harry both in (the afterlife??) & in the frame in his office at the end. It was so good, not just for kids at all!!!!
