One Night was such a light, sweet and feel good book that will leave you smiling and swooning even after you're done reading it. The first time I was able to read the blurb of this book, I immediately got hooked and captivated. I wanted to know more about it. I mean, we're talking about a single mother and an ex-hockey player here! I certainly had high hopes for this book and I wasn't disappointed at all. Leatha just proved yet again that her lighter side can leave an impact just as crazy magnetic as her darker side.

After losing her husband to a roadside IED during his last few months of deployment, Amanda Wells devoted all of her time and love to her five-year old son, Jase. She stopped going out much and dating all together, making being a single mom her top priority. And then her best friend set her up for a blind date with a mutual friend—an ex-hockey player and the best bud of the man she's seeing. After getting bugged about it for quite some time and some pushing from her own mother to find her jolly old self, Amanda finally relented and agreed to said date.

Malcolm Peppernick's life (as Pep) in the professional hockey world was long over. That includes the fame, the women, the partying. Now, all he wants to do is change paths in his career and move on with his life. Try his best to have a clean slate in a new city, which kinda takes dating out of the picture. All he's focused on at the moment is building up his new career, which he loves and enjoys tremendously. But with the insistence of his friend and old hockey pal, he finds himself agreeing to go on a blind date with a nice woman and figured he'd just get it over with and get his friend off his back.

It was only supposed to be one night—an entire night filled with unrestrained passion and unbridled lust, where Amanda could be the old her, leaving all her inhibitions and reality behind, and just live in the moment with Malcolm. But with how strong the chemistry and attraction was between them, one night could never really be enough. The only thing is, Mandy has so many reservations when it came to Jase—which was completely understandable—that it left her sneaking time with Malcolm after her son goes to bed, unless she finds someone to watch him for her. Or if they couldn't make it to see each other, they resorted to phone calls. She tried hard to separate her life between the sheets with Malcolm from her son, but it was inevitable. They were inevitable. And I hated how much she hurt Malcolm in the process to try and keep those two sides of her life from clashing. But don't get me wrong—she really is an amazing mother.

I fell in love with everything about our hero in this story. Malcolm may have had his own rocky past as "Pep", but the new and improved version of Malcolm that Mandy gets here is just perfect. The love and incredible amount of patience Malcolm displayed all throughout was pretty outstanding, in my opinion. He gave her all the time and space she needed to adjust and think and still, he never pushed her for anything. Even when he didn't know where they stood or if he's falling into what they have alone. He's just so sweet and gentlemanly (outside the bedroom, that is), it was utterly swoon-worthy and heart-melting. Mandy is beyond lucky to have found a guy like Malcolm. Or better yet, she's lucky a guy like Malcolm waited for her to wake up and see what she truly had right in front of her.

I absolutely enjoyed every moment of Mandy and Malcolm, especially with how much fate played a huge role in their relationship. I know there are times that this kind of thing gets a little too much, it starts to lose your interest. But that wasn't the case with this one. For me anyway. The humor and the twists injected into the tale added spark and flavor into the book instead. I'll even go as far as saying that I loved this one a helluva lot more than Plus One. This is just better, hotter, more adorable and so much more compelling. If you're up for an easy, fun, yet sexy read with the perfect amount of emotional pull, One Night is the book for you.
