Let me be clear, I've never been a fan of Chaol. Like, ever. Especially after the crap he pulled you can bet I wasn't looking forward to this. Then again, I couldn't wait to see Yrene again so I was a mixed bag.
I still don't like Chaol, but I loved this story so much more than I thought I could. This is, of course, a testament to Sarah J. Maas's writing. Holy Smokes was this good.
At no point did it feel lacking or out of touch with the previous books. It flowed well amid the obvious (don't try to tell me differently!) plot connections brought on by fancy dinners with the scheming siblings. It is well and truly a companion to Empire of Storms.
AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THOSE SIBLINGS?! Of course we can, it's my review. I detest/dislike Arghun and Hasar but Sartaq? Kashin? Oh I love me some Sartaq and Kashin. Duva is cool too but I love the brothers. Hasar is a biotch and honestly I only liked her during the oasis scene and the war council one. (Hehe shitting on the roof hehe.) Arghun is just a booby so we won't talk about him.
Relationship time! Okay so I had a couple ships I wanted sailed and... haha... I got them. Chaol and Yrene was expected and that left someone else ripe for the picking. Which, without spoiling, I love where that went. Oh that felt more real to me than Chaol and Yrene sometimes but I don't care.
I mean, I care about the Ruk's though. I thought after three books of wanting my very own Abraxos I'd be happy and content. Little did I know Kadara would steal my weak and puny heart. Thanks girl.
Which that basically covers this predominantly spoiler free review. I'm so proud of myself. Now excuse me, I'm of trying to figure out HOW TO DEAL WITH THAT MAJOR FUCKING PLOT TWIST THAT JUST BLEW MY DAMN MIND AND IS TOTALLY GOING TO FORCE ME TO REREAD THE ENTIRE SERIES YET AGAIN. Am I upset with this? No. But also a little, because I had just planned on rereading EOS and TOD before the finale but now I obviously have to reread the whole series. I'm "so upset".
