Every time I finish reading this book I want to start again. I love this book so much that anything I could say about it would be inadequate; reading this book is like coming home.

I loved this book so much I can't even express it in words. I can't even pinpoint the exact thing that made it so lovable, but it had a je ne sais quoi quality that I can't describe in words. It was so beautiful. It was real, and honest, and raw. It was beautiful, relatable and unrelatable, and just pure, unfiltered awesomeness. So awesome, in fact, that I am going to fail miserably at attempting to do this trophy justice with my shabby review.

I mean, going into this book, I was excited. I saw how many prizes it won on the cover and I saw how much people loved it, but my expectations didn't do it justice. This book exceeded my expectations so far, that my expectations were left behind in the dust.

At first, the writing was strange to me because I haven't seen writing like this-but it was really good. The writing was amazing, even though, or maybe even because, it was unique. I felt everything- I felt the sadness, the anger, the hurt, the laughter. In some ways, reading this book was like a catharsis for me. And the character development? Wow, all of the characters were deep. And they were all wonderful characters (at least the main ones- obviously not the jackasses Julian or Daniel, but generally). Also, the parents were amazing. I'm so jealous of the relationship between Dante and his parents and even Aristotle and his parents. Can I borrow those parental traits and infuse them into my parents? I haven't felt this jealous of a parent-child relationship since Gilmore Girls.

Okay, maybe I'm still a little more jealous of the Gilmore Girls mother-daughter relationship. #goals
The ending was a little too rushed though. I don't know if this was just me, but I also thought the time period choice was interesting. It felt too recent to be historical fiction, but too early to be the more modern years-the 1980s rather than the 2000s or 2011 or 2012. However, I liked it.
Also, it makes me sad and angry that Dante, or anyone really, should have to worry that anyone would stop loving them or hate them or see them completely differently because of their sexuality. Or that they should be apologetic for it. IF THEY DON'T ACCEPT YOU, THEY DON'T DESERVE YOU. IF SOMEONE REALLY LOVES YOU, THAT WON'T CHANGE NO MATTER WHAT.
But I just. . . I just want to buy this book and keep it and hug it forever and ever.

Anyway, this book is beautiful and amazing and everyone in the entire world needs to read it and love it and cherish it.

Perfect Gif/Image usage here. Especially the last picture ahah albeit creepy. I've been wanting to read this for a LONG, LONGGGG time so I'm really excited to start it in 2018 (hopefully)
