Third Re-read of the series, and this time I read the illustrated edition, which was pure magic. On to the next one!

Original Review:

I read this book a couple of years ago and, for some unknown reason, never continued on. It was just as wonderfully magical as I remembered, a breath of fresh air during what is usually a stressful time of year for me. I have yet to find a story that feels so pure and childlike that appeals to such a broad range of people. There’s something for everyone here; whether you are 10 or 100, Hogwarts is a place you can escape to and enjoy hearty adventures that you won’t find elsewhere.

I truly love all of the characters and feel the entire cast is well done, but my personal favorites are the Weasley twins, Hagrid, and Professor McGonnall. While I’ve seen all the movies and know the general storyline, I’m really excited to experience the story “first hand and see what all was left out from the films. I’m also intrigued to find out more about each house, especially the ones that took a backseat in this story. Not sure if I can say anything that hasn’t been said before, but I loved it!

Chelsea Humphrey Thank you Jasmin!

Melissa Woodley You are in for such a treat! This is the only series I’ve ever read where each new book is better than the last. And I totally agree that this is the best time of year to read them! The movies are good, but the books are just so much better. The movies seem so dark to me, and they leave so much out. Perfect casting for every character though.

Chelsea Humphrey I completely agree Melissa!

Stephanie Anze Great review! Professor McGonnall is also one of my favorite characters. Hope you continue with the series, it only gets better.

Chelsea Humphrey Stephanie wrote: "Great review! Professor McGonnall is also one of my favorite characters. Hope you continue with the series, it only gets better."

Thanks Steph! I have a hold placed on the chamber of secrets and it should be in on Saturday! 🤗🤗🤗

Camile Souza (This Chamber of Books) This is my favorite series and it's the one that really got me into reading when I was younger. I really hope you enjoy it. You're definitely getting a lot more information from the books, stuff that the movies hardly even touched on, especially as the books get thicker and thicker.

Chelsea Humphrey It’s so true Camille! I love the movies but nothing compares to the book. ❤️

Camile Souza (This Chamber of Books) Chelsea wrote: "It’s so true Camille! I love the movies but nothing compares to the book. ❤️"

I think one of the coolest things about this series is how connected the books are. There's a lot of foreshadowing throughout this series, keep an eye out bc details matter haha

Chelsea Humphrey Very true! And I love that they grow darker and a bit more mature as the series goes on.

Bobbi One of the best series ever written and literally can be enjoyed by everyone. I reread them usually once a year, and all the people on booktube usually do a reread of Harry Potter around Christmastime. You will absolutely love this series, and a lot of parents I know read them to their kids as well. As for the houses, they do go in to some depth of each one as the story goes on. Of course Gryffindor is highlighted the most because most of the major characters are in that house. And of course Slytherin is highlighted a lot because Malfoy is in that house. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw don’t get as much of the spotlight. Go on Pottermore and you can read about each house, and also take the official test to see which house you belong in. I myself am a Ravenclaw. 😊 You can also take it a step further and get sorted in to the North American school of wizardry called Ilvermorny. (I’m a Thunderbird) 😂 The whole world is amazing, and JK Rowling is an expert at world building! I know you’ll love all 7 books, and I cant wait to see which ends up being your favorite! All Potterheads have a fav book. (Goblet of Fire! 🙌🏻🙌🏻) 😂😂

Camile Souza (This Chamber of Books) Yeah, it starts middle-grade and grows to YA, but I think since the beginning you could some dark stuff as far as middle-grade usually goes. I think that's one of the reasons why this series pleases people from all ages.

Stephanie ((Strazzybooks)) Agreed that it's perfect holiday reading. I always revisit Hogwarts this time of year to bring a little peace and comfort to a hectic time!

Heather~ Nature.books.and.coffee I can't believe I have never read these books! I loved the movies! I should definitely pick these up because my son has them all! Thanks for the review!

Deadlock52 my mom read me this book when i was 8 years old

Chelsea Humphrey Ah thanks so much Bobbi! I’m a Ravenclaw as well but I need to check out the North American houses!

Fefyy Antela "Rereading" them for the third time via audiobook as well and I AM LOVING THEM. Best rereading experience I've had of this series. I'm just about to finish the last book and I'm actually thinking about listening to them all over again once I'm done (because I have no chill apparently).

Ah I love that! I can't wait to read these with my daughters one day. <3

Marty Fried I read it years ago, too, and actually read the second; I liked them, but didn't continue with the series. I've also been tempted to go back and read the series one day. Perhaps your experience will inspire me.

I would definitely recommend continuing on! The books get more mature (and definitely a bit darker)as they continue on. It's quite a treat to watch Rowling's writing grow with the characters.

Kit Great review Chelsea, read this for first time recently, your comments are fully on point - and yes the Weasley twins were a favourite here too.

Looking forward to reading the next one, you’ve also reminded me that I’m yet to right a review for this... definitely a very different experience to what I remember from watching the films, I actually ‘feel it a lot more now, the devil (and the magic) is in the detail.
